What's your view on Kelechi's season, Safarigirl?
I think it's been great, I mean, when you compare where he's at now to where his peers are, there's a glaring distinction.
3 years ago, it was him, Berisha, Mosquito, Ochoa, Kennedy and Awoniyi making headlines at the U17 WC in UAE...today, it's arguably, just him. Not much has been heard concerning the others and while I understand that in some cases eg Ochoa's, it's mostly cuz of Latin America's tradition of training homegrown talent before shipping them off, the rest of them don't have that excuse.
He's been given the sort of chance in City that his compatriot, Awoniyi hasn't gotten in Liverpool and he's taken it.
And yes, while a lot of Nigerians are still miffed that City ruined our perfectly good number 10 and converted him to a striker, at least the club has proved most of us wrong by playing him. Many Nigerians predicted the death of Iheanacho's career in City because you guys don't have the reputation of promoting youth.
So, I suppose I speak both for myself and lots of Nigerians when I say, Kelechi has had an awesome first season and it's thanks to Pellegrinni, the management staff of the club as well as supportive fans willing to trash the likes of Rashford, Martial, Origi and anyone else that could contend with their own mini-Messi for the future ballon d'or.
I know this reads like some weird "Thank You" speech, but it is. From Nigerians to all City fans, we say thank you for giving Kelechi a rare chance and hopefully, he continues to impress next season.
