Kemi Badenoch - Elected Tory Leader

Really? I had to google it all but Essex County Council were heavily involved, her constituency is Saffron Walden - in Essex. She says she worked with neighbouring MPs and the council. She was in the cabinet which would be useful for anyone trying to get funding for this.

In her own words

Kemi Badenoch, MP for Saffron Walden, said: “Having worked closely with neighbouring MPs, councils and various stakeholders to secure the funding for the new Beaulieu train station, I am delighted construction on the site has now begun.“

I don’t particularly like the lady, I hope she moves more to one nation Toryism but fairs fair fella, she might be using a bit of creative license here but she’s not lying.
I think the new station actually is in her constituency (now renamed North West Essex) which is a big geographic area and includes parts of Chelmsford borough.

It depends what you call work mate.

I'd say a project that was short of funding for a good decade plus before she became an MP, and then secured funding from a housing infrastructure fund announced a week or so before she became an MP for the first time meant that she had little to no involvement in getting this project delivered.

The shortfall in funding had been an issue for a long long time. Then the government announced a huge fund to help unlock housing projects that needed infrastructure delivery to enable them. As I said, that fund gets announced a week after she becomes an MP and then ECC manage to secure the funding they need to get the project delivered. She didn't oppose it, but to take credit for it is a stretch. I'd compare it to Kalvin Phillips boasting about his part in the treble.

Ah gotcha mate, appreciate the timelines. We all know they mostly exercise creative license - they shouldn’t.

This is a bit like hoping Nigel Farage is going to join the Green Party. You'll probably be disappointed.

I’m far from optimistic. Never has a newly appointed leader of an opposition party then become the next PM after electoral defeat. I don’t see that changing here even given the unpopularity of Starmer. I do think the danger for our politics is that unpopularity lends votes to populist parties like reform.

Thatcher became Leader of the Opposition less than four months after the 1974 General Election, although Callaghan interposed between her and Wilson I suppose!

She’s the female gove with the snark of Priti Patel. I’ve every confidence the media are sitting on some huge scandal she’s been part of and it’ll be outed when needed.

It’s a surprising statistic. My early prediction is the Lib Dem’s continue to benefit next time around, and we know they are like Japanese knot weed - once they get in somewhere they are very hard to get rid of.

Just watched her interview on the Free Press...

I know nothing about English Politics, but I can tell when I'm starring at a future Prime Minister.

Kemi Badenock will become England's Prime Minister.
