Did you watch last night?

Yeah..
But nothing changed my mind about whether it was the right time.
A Legend and rightly so, He even goes to the top of the class in our long history of players at this great club

The future and rebuilding starts, if Manchester City want to win titles and cups and play 3 games a week, then KDB does not play next season. YES, he could be a good player to have around and be on the bench, but Legends don't sit on the bench,

Pep has said he wants a small group of players again next season and a squad of 17 or 18 players or he leaves.
having to say to 5 or 6 players, sorry you're not playing is painful

Last night showed why it's the right time to leave. The reception from the fans was amazing, If he had to sit on the bench all season, he would just leave to an empty stadium,

He played well for 20 minutes.

£400k a week or even a reduced contract of £200k (he wouldn’t accept any less) just isn’t worth it.

If City offered £100k which is probably more than he’s worth he’d rightly think it was an insult.

He should go to MLS or Saudi for a last big pay check for his family.

Completely different players so I don't really like comparing them. Both magnificent in their own right. What I will say is Kevin would walk into any top side in the world in his prime, but Salad there'd be question marks.

I always recall that interview KDB did with Jamie Redknapp a number of years ago where he said he preferred the feeling an assist gave him over scoring himself. Clearly he's more than capable of smashing them in the top corner himself as we've seen numerous times, but who wouldn't want to play alongside an individual that has that quality and selflessness at the same time? You only had to look at the friction between Mane and Salad due to the latter's selfishness. That's not necessarily a bad trait as a goalscorer, but any other side would have to accomodate Salah whereas KDB would just slide right into the 11 as though he'd been there years.

Interestingly Salad just came out and said there's a space for him at Anfield. That's on the back of them winning the title too, so I don't think he's necessarily thinking about it improving the team and more that he's fully aware playing alongside KDB his goal tally probably goes up 10 goals a season.
Made a similar point to my lot last night but about Haaland. taking nothing away from Erling as a striker, but I'm sure there was a stat from his first or second season that showed how many assists Kev had for Haaland goals. Also wonder if/how Haaland's figures will fare going forward.

Top post. Couldn't have put it better myself.

Great night last night. Fantastic send off. Having only seen the back end of Colin Bell’s career when he was more or less done, I’m going to say the greatest player I’ve seen in a City shirt.

The right time to go for me as well. Possibly if we had a young squad of dynamic young midfielders around him, they could have squeezed another year out of him. But that isn’t the case.

If you look at the two other clubs in modern times who have dominated English football for lengthy periods, the one thing they have in common is that they were both ruthless when it came time to letting legendary players go.

But I hope he finds another club that suits him and he has a couple of productive, injury free seasons. Preferably not in England.

You missed it. He said Pep and the club built the team for him to be part of the success of the last 10 years.
Hm, that's quite minimalist I'd say ;)

I don't criticize Kev, I just was interested. I'm sure Kev is grumpy about the club's decision. That's part of the personality package that gave us so many wonderful moments.

I really enjoyed watching their little sunshine, she was stealing his show!

I saw virtually all of The King's career at Maine Road and I've said before that KDB shades it for me.

Pep was the person who told him that a contract wasn’t being offered a few weeks ago. I think Kev is still feeling pretty hurt by it. Even though it’s clearly the correct decision for the club.

It’s not his most high profile goal but my favourite KDB moment will always be be that left footer he scored at chelsea in Pep’s second season. Chelsea had won the league easily, Pep was being mocked and doubted. It was our first big game of the season and we went to SB and pressed the life out of them, totally bossed the game. I remember saying to my dad “This is the best City performance I’ve ever seen” fairly early on. It was our first proper introduction to the Pep way of playing and we kept missing chances until Kev put that screamer away.

He had run and won a game away against the champions and it represented an introduction to the world of Pep’s City. It marked the beginning of an era.

The only issue with that is if he goes to somewhere like Villa and helps them gain another 15-20 points a season, we have a problem.

I actually don't think either ilorin, to keep him or to let him go, would have been the wrong option, there are merits in both. He's not going to have the impact he has previously but he will also leave a hole which will cost us in some matches.

In otherwords I don't subscribe to the "he's past it, we need to let him go" theory, UNLESS those same people accept that were probably going to lose out as a result in some matches. It's inevitable - you don't replace a player like Kev overnight.

You don't let a top player go just so you can give them a good send off UNLESS you have a solid replacement. I believe we do, and I believe that player is Oscar Bobb (you can laugh at me at the end of next season), but he'll probably need half a season to get to the required level IF he gets the game time.
