You have to consider what having him around would do.

It is easy: Go and see how Ronaldo, et al worked out in Salford.
Kevin is quite different to Ronaldo, Kevin is a humble hard working player who works his socks off most matches. Imo he would be an inspiration to the younger players.

Ronaldo is a pompous prima dona, who strolls around the pitch expecting everyone else to do the running.

An unfair comparison imo!

Numbers and stats are used, quite rightly, at many levels of decision making in modern football.

Some clubs like Brentford, Liverpool and ourselves have found them very helpful.

Just because you refer to stats doesn't mean you can't use your eyes as well ;-)
Exactly, what a website scores him out of 10 in a match I find irrelevant compared to how I watch and analyse a game.

For the 4 PL matches since he's recovered

The ratings given by BBC post match voters: 2 x first, a fourth and a fifth could have been effected by sentiment?

However the average score of 7.8/10 given by whoscored.com, have nothing to do with sentiment. It's just independent statistical analysis.

You are hard to please if you think he's performed 'average at best'. I wonder if Pep shares your opinion?

His minutes in those 4 matches were 87, 88, 90 and 84, (an average of 87 minutes), not far off 90 minute performances?
Pep shares the opinion because they aren't renewing. We aren't renewing because he cannot be relied upon either with fitness or performance. the man has played probably close to 35 games this season and you are quoting 4? Quoting 4 to prove a point that apparently that has been when he has been fit, so if he has only really been fit 4 out of nearly 35 games or so, there is your answer.

He didn't say he can't play for 90 minutes.

He said he cant deliver MOTM type performances over the length of a game.

And he is right.

4 good games this late in a seaon of 60 odd, doesn't change that.
He's only recovered recently from a long term injury. Let's try and assess him when he's injury free.

He's delivered 2 x 'man of the match type performances' in 87 minutes (Palace) and 84 minutes (Wolves) that's very close to the length of a game?

It's sad if the team can't hang on for a few minutes, while Kev acknowledges the appreciation of the fans as he comes off a hero in the closing moments?

Think you are missing the wider point and focusing on specific minutes.

I agree with you. A prime kev, amazing. A fully fit in-form kevin, amazing. But those games are few and far between, and have been for two seasons now. There is a chance that improves, but there is a chance it doesn't. The right time to call time on it.

You are right, but the expectation their presence brings is very similar. I think people are naive in thinking a player as big as Kevin has been for us, sticks about and gets used sparingly from the bench, without any impact on the dressing room and atmosphere. Regardless of his character.

Are you comparing De Bruyne, our captain who has driven this team forward for the last 10 years with fake Ronaldo? The comparison doesn't make sense, for one Ronaldo's ego and for two if KDB was taking a big wage cut.
Ah come on,
Clearly, my comment is forward looking one, not a backward one.

It is already happening. KDB has been vocal on more than one occasion regarding his discontent.

Do you think he would be any happer being less involved next year?

I reckon he’ll turn it on in Naples, you can extend your career over there by years

And what if he wants a 2 or 3 year contract? Do you think he'd agree to just 12 months extension? How much would that cost us, in terms of goals and/or games lost when he gets ran past, time and time again?
Have you got the stats that say he’s not been running as much as his team mates? I can only go by the eye test which says to me he’s more than doing his fair share. Also how do you know he was looking for 2 or 3 years? You know for a fact he’s going to get run past “time and time again”, cos that’s not what I am seeing at the games

Disgrace how a club decided to let him go despite him wanting to extend!
I am sure if he was prepared to stay on a vastly reduced salary or on a pay and play deal, he might have been offered an extension.

Unfortunately he is not worth his 400k a week salary, given his age and fitness reliability. He is no where the level he once was

Still one of our greatest players over the years and deserves a great send off

Seems so many have forgotten how poor this season has been by our usual standards and mainly down to injuries on senior pros who are coming to the end of their careers.
To suggest keeping Kev on after his missed the majority of the past two seasons is a decision being made out of sentiment and not being thought out correctly.

He’d be still on a fortune, be used sparingly, and would be no good for squad morale.

It’s a sad fact that we have arguably left it 12 months too late, not just with Kev, and whilst he’s been superb for us over 10 years the club and ITS future is more important than anyone player.

2nd best I’ve seen behind David and an absolute joy to watch but we have to move forward and that often means difficult, painful but correct decisions.
