I can’t remember who exactly was after him to be honest but i recall it was by no means a cert we were getting him. So that suggests other clubs were in for him. It’s certainly ludicrous to suggest no other top clubs would have signed him anyway.Why didn't Bayern try to sign him when he was with Wolfsburg? We took that risk on him, paid a good amount of money for him at the time, and put him on the biggest stage. No other club did that, City did.
My main point is there is no loyalty in football. Clubs only appear to be when they have a top player at the peak of his game. Ffs clubs aren’t even loyal to their own fans. Therefore the club have chosen to get rid of KDB, he owes us nothing and if signing for the Premier League champions if they’re the best club for him offering him the chance to stay at the top level then fair play to him. He doesn’t want to leave City so he’s not shitting on anyone.Obviously as a City fan i hope he goes elsewhere.

The did try and sign him and assumed they would for the fee of their choosing because Bayern (shareholder and sponsor Audi) were dealing with Wolfsburg (owner VW Group). Wolfsburg's Chairman pretty much said at the time they wanted to sell him to Bayern rather than City and would have accepted a lower fee.Munich wasn’t ready to pay more than 40M for any player during that time. Aguero got a dream move back to Spain to one of the biggest clubs in the world. KDB owes us nothing and we don’t owe him much. I think it’s the right time for him to go but as soon as he’s on the decline (rightly so) we’ve got rid. So we’ve not shown him loyalty either.
If he gets the chance to go to one of the best clubs in England not uproot his family and thinks he can still play in the Premier League why shouldn’t he? There’s no loyalty in football and it works both ways.

I agree but it's not all about what his legs can do. The expertise and experience he can bring to the dressing room are immense.We have an aging midfield with KdB, Kovacic, Gundogan and Bernardo and this has been one of the reasons for our struggles this season. Each of them is going to need replacing over the next year or so. Unless we can find buyers for them, they'll just have to leave when their contracts expire. It just so happens that KdB's is the first to expire.
I certainly hope that we don't offer him another year (unless 2 or 3 of the above mentioned are leaving). We need a complete rebuild of midfield and that can't happen while we still have all of these older players on our books. Otherwise we are in for another similar season.

He isn't a natural leader. The players love him, but Rodri, Dias and Gundo are better leaders.

Just out of interest what would you consider a better end to his city career to look like? He can sign for anyone who wants him for decent money plus a signing on fee? Or we could offer him a salary cut and with no promises of starting a game again for us? Sounds like a win win situation letting him decide where his future lies now.I really think he would, or maybe rather I should rephrase it as squad player. He knows he can't play three times a week all season, not just for fitness but also to ensure when he does play he can produce, and his family is massively important to him and staying in Manchester for another year allows his kids to maintain their friendships and gives time to think about their next move. Getting that option of a balance between playing and playing in a competitive team, who challenge for trophies, is not common, and it's arguably ideal for a guy who's going to be 34 soon.
If he goes to America or the middle east, that's the end of truly competitive, prestigious football for him. It's also a huge change of lifestyle for not just him but potentially the whole family, maybe also his international career winds down, and he may just not want that. Maybe he's be ok with that on reflection, but by staying at city he has a chance of both game time and competitiveness.
Unfortunately I do expect I'm being overly hopeful and the decision is done, so have to just be ok with it. I do still think he has something to offer a title chasing premier league team, and I hoped for a better end to his city career given his importance to us, but it's not the end of the world.

I think it's more to do with planning for next season. He recently said he wants the best for Kevin, and that hints at us going big next season in that area so he won't be guaranteed to start (unlike every other season he's been here). At this age he wants to play, he still thinks he can play but we (the club) don't think he will be able to play enough games at the level we need to justify his wages. Personally i feel like we have made so much money that we owe him another season to prove he can hack it, around the new signings. But the accountants obviously look only at numbers.
That's why our billionaire owners employ them... You don't get rich by wasting money.
It's a business, not a charity.

Good question. I suppose retiring at city and still being able to play a part in a team that lifts trophies, or ending up at new york and rather selfishly not going anywhere else outside of the city group, or at least not another premier league club.Just out of interest what would you consider a better end to his city career to look like? I'm just clinging to the hope that his patchy form has been more down to injuries, lack of match fitness and a team that has been low on confidence for parts of the season.
I accept it's probably the right time for everyone, but the thought of him turning it on in another premier league teams colours, I struggle with it. Plus, he's a winner and he's led our team so you'd hope would have a valuable input to shaping the rest of the team and blooding in the new players. Ultimately, sentiment in football often doesn't work out, but I still love the bloke.
