Am worried now as if he scores against us I may just stand up and applaud him.
Wish we’d given him another couple of years

Let’s face it. If Kev came back he would probably be injured now. He ain’t even getting injured playing in Italy.
Meanwhile, players we have signed and hardly ever been injured. Well guess what. They are now.

Imo.....a strange decision to be SO pragmatic to release Kevin.....no negotiation, no discussion, just go.

We have lost a thousand games worth of elite level experience which cannot be replaced or perhaps replicated.

Of all the summer departees Kevin was the one I'd have kept if only for cameo roles.

His experience and influence would've been worth one more year + an option for one more.

A wonderful player.

It was the right time. If it was the wrong decision then it may come back to haunt us in the short term. Sorry to speak of the devil but Whiskey Face was the best at people moving on at the right time. If sentimentalism ruled the roost then we would still have Kinky and the Goat playing.

Scored a penalty before being substituted in the second half. The commentators made no bones about the fact that it was a daft decision. AC Milan were down to 10 men and Napoli were trailing by a goal 1-2.

Absolutely. He may be playing well now, and I'm genuinely pleased for him. By the way, a change of club and environment can be a “refresher“ for a player, and I think that's what happening.
But the main point is the big picture. And the big picture is that the most brilliant manager that we've ever had or are likely to have leaves in under two years. So with Mubarak, Viana, they must have thought “We've got to rebuild for the long term, so as to leave something to work with”.
It's exactly what Ferguson and his cronies didn't do, and we've seen the result.
This is the best-run club in the business. And the decision to let Kev move on was part of its strategic thinking. He was not realistically part of long-term, or even medium-term thinking.
Thanks for showing me some of the exciting football I've seen in my life time, Kev. No regrets.

No; it was the right time. For the last 12 months, he was a passenger a lot of the time. A pale imitation of the player we had from 2016 (?) to 2023. He will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest players we ever had, but you can't let your heart rule your head. Yes, he had a few good games last season. But they were the exception, rather than the norm. Which is what they used to be.

Also the PL is much more demanding than the Italian- so he’d be injured by now :-)

Not sure if that has been posted before, but good article here >>>>

Yeah, I've read it before, but it was genuinely moving to read it again. Just an utterly real person, hewn out of rock. We have a saying in French: il est entier. Literally, he is “entire”. He could never, ever be a pundit. Not for lack of understanding of the game, far from it. Just, I don't think he could really be “media trained”.
That business with the foster family. At fourteen. How devastating that kind of thing can be to an adolescent. Any adolescent, talented or not. That kind of adult two-facedness.
By heavens but we've been privileged to have the footballers that we've had and seen the football that we've seen since 2010 or so…!

I love KDB as much as any Blue , so much so that I went to Naples ten days ago to watch him play . He came on a a substitute in the second half, when Napoli went a goal behind, and was a class above anyone else in the pitch . Mostly he was walking and in a deeper position. No real press from either side and he had time to look up and play the pass. He did one sprint on the break and it was like seeing him in his pomp again . Conte was giving him a lot of freedom to move in a roving role . Hoyland was a classic target number nine and saw a lot more of the ball than he did at The Swamp . He's an average player though and fell over a lot .

In summary the game was a lot slower and less pressured than PL, with more space and time on the ball. I'm sure KDB is enjoying himself and wish him nothing but joy.
