In 2001, my daughter was the mascot for a game at Maine Road, she was 9 years old and when she ran out with the team, she stopped about 20 yards from the tunnel and came over to me as I stood on the touchline.
KK came over and asked if everything was OK, I said that she was a bit overawed by it all.
He called Stuart Pearce over, introduced him to my daughter by name and told him not to let go of her hand until kick off.
He didn't need to wait that long because Nicky Weaver, her favourite player, rolled the ball to her and told her to try a shot at him, she let go of Pearce's hand and happily played with Weaver until the ref called the captains for kick off.
Right then just before a big game, he wasn't a Superstar, he was a dad, a really great bloke that recognised a little girl that needed a hand to hold.
We lost 4 nil.
