Kevin Keegan

It was a great season but I think people forget just how inconsistent we were up until October. Our first 10 league games we won 6 and lost 4. But then it was a light bulb moment as from November to the end of the season we only lost 5 more games.

Just free flowing attacking football
Huckerby
Goater
Wanchope
Ali B
Berkovic
SWP

The goals just came from everywhere.

The game which really made me believe we were going to win the league was Burnley at home. Top of the table clash and we absolutely battered them. 4 up at HT
That Burnley game was brilliant. Great memories.

The first game I ever remember attending at Maine road 6 years old was that season 4-1 at home to gillingham goater hattrick

One of the main factors for me was losing Berkovic. One of the best midfield performances I have seen was at Old Trafford in the 1-1 draw when Goatee and Ali B came on and created an equaliser.

Pretty sure the game was in Feb, Berkovic then got injured maybe a game or two after and sold in the summer. A few transfer mistakes later and the writing was on the wall.
Wonderful performance from Berkovic.....and we were robbed by another rag ref decision for a none handball.

I’ve got great memories of the keegan era.

But my favourite memory was when my dad took me to watch them train one year just before Christmas at carrington.

Keegan was an absolute gentleman, he told security to let us through the gate.
He was making jokes and interacting with us. Whilst also leading drills and putting crosses in for the forwards (he still had a great cross on him)
After the session he said usually they would invite us inside for pictures and autographs but they needed to travel straight after the session as they were playing the next day.

I’ll never forget how warm and embracing he was to us.

About 6 years ago he was doing an after dinner speech at a company event that I attended. Luckily I was sat next to him and couldn't believe his memory of random City games that I wanted to talk about. He was really positive about all things City and considering his main allegiances lie with the Dippers and Newcastle you wouldn't have known it.
He sat in the bar afterwards chatting to everyone and he genuinely seemed like a top bloke as his payday was guaranteed after his speech but he was happy to stay for a few hours after that and give up his time.

That’s exactly what happened. I also remember the derby performance when he ran the game (and we had a winner disallowed). He fell out with keegan and he wouldn’t pick him and we never recovered. The worst moment was losing at Oldham in the freezing cold and keegan didn’t leave the bench.
