khedira

Too old considering the age of our other options. We need to be looking at the 20-25 year old bracket to bring through players who will improve and peak with us. He is a brilliant player who can boss the midfield on his day but I think we will go for younger options even if they are (khe)dearer.

Please, no. He is a very good player, but we need better than very good if we're to ever go to the next level. And he's another in the second half of his 20s, it's probably time for an injection of youthful vigour in this squad. Go for Koke or Pogba (regardless of his new contract) if we want a new central midfielder, a bright young player but already performing at an extremely high level.

Man City join the race for Khedira
Manchester City have joined the race to sign Sami Khedira and are weighing up a January swoop for the Real Madrid midfielder.

According to the Daily Mail, the German international has been unable to agree terms on a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu and Madrid are willing to sell him in the next transfer market, providing their asking price of around €10m is met.

The 27-year-old has been the subject of speculation linking him with Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, while he is understood to be ready to lower his wage demands to secure a January move and City boss Manuel Pellegrini is monitoring the situation.

Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti recently indicated that he is in favour of keeping Khedira – at least until the end of the current campaign.

“If he wants to sign a contract extension then the club will renew. If not, he’ll leave at the end of the season.

“We have until June to reach agreement with him,” said the Italian.

Would be a good buy.
Quality.

Een Noos Story:

Yaya Toure's indifferent start to the season has already seen Ross Barkley touted as his long-term successor but City could energise their midfield with a German international, too.

Sami Khedira, linked with a host of Premier League clubs in the summer, is said to be interesting Manuel Pellegrini.

Khedira, memorably marvellous in Germany's World Cup semi-final annihilation of Brazil, has less than a year remaining on his Real Madrid contract and is unlikely to regain his first-team place.

Toni Kroos' arrival in the summer pushed Khedira further towards the periphery, despite Xabi Alonso's departure, and Khedira could continue City's love affair with Germans.

City could accelerate a move for Khedira after Everton boss Roberto Martinez recently confirmed there is no buy-out clause in Barkley's new contract.

The 20-year-old's prodigious ability and style of play make him an ideal candidate to assume Toure's throne, however his recent commitment to Everton will inflate his transfer fee.

It could take £50m to prise Barkley away from Goodison Park, which would comfortably make him City's most expensive player.

Great player but not who we should be looking at. We need a player a bit younger to start to replace the current crop. otherwise we run the risk of doing a united and having all of our best players suddenly hit their decline and eventual retirement at the same time. Having said that, he'd be a great 6 month loan option to cover yaya and replace Lampard if we could somehow sort that out with Madrid.

If we can get him in January for 10m then it would be a great bit of business. I see it as a replacement for Lampard who has been our best player in the holding position over the first few months.
At the end of the season we need to replace Yaya because of his sell by date and also take an overview of Dinho ( still suffering from WC debacle ) and Nando ( more octopussy than octopus so far ). At this stage we can bring in the younger up and coming candidates such as Pogba or Barkley, if the price is right. This would also sit more comfortably with FFP.
Khedira would be the right peg for the right hole in January.

He's not homegrown

We should try and tempt madrid with a small fee for a 6 month loan deal in January to proved cover and competition in the middle once Lampard goes. Long term, this guy isn't the answer but given his situation and our alarming lack of cover come january, on top of the difficulty in buying top players in the january window i think bringing him in on loan for a few million is the best we could hope for. If Pellegrini does nothing, as i worringly suspect he might do, we'll be in big trouble.

Lampard can only be replaced with a homegrown player.

Not for the champions league, that's why Negredo was let go, but that may not be a problem in January, assuming we are stlll in Europe it will need to be homegrown.

Was talking mainly about the league, I couldn't care less about Europe, League should always be the priority. besides, barring a miracle we're not going to be in the champions league come Feb.

even if we make it to europe, thats a minimum of 2 games, whereas in the league we would have a minimum of 15 games I guess after Jan window closes, so it really doesnt matter if we bring in a HG player or not, we need the extra player for those 15 games, not for 2 possible games in europe.

Bit of talk that he's signed a pre contract with Bayern.

Nope. Club already officially denied that rumours - they would not do that if there was any interest in the player. Take it that he will not land in Munich out of several reasons.

--------

I do not think that he is overrated.
He is no artist - that is why people usually do not rate him. But he is a worker and you really see his value in matches that do not run that smoothly. It is this matches in which you do not see an Özil or Kroos and you need the fighters in which he is really valuable.

And a player that is offered a new contract at Real Madrid (even if he might not be satisfied with the wage they offer) has enough quality for the most other teams.

Just watched a great vid on YouTube from the Nike academy at St George's park where he visited, to have a session and talk to somebody me young lads, he comes a crow as someone who would be great in the dressing room and he speaks English and Spanish. Must buy for me.
