Kids To University

I went in 2012 and came home the next day because I had an early morning flight to watch Madrid v City!

He'll learn more about life than he will his actual subject, and he'll probably figure out there's a different type of nobhead at University; the lad that think he's cock of the University because of Daddy's money and that he's president of the Geography society or some shit.

He'll have a fucking great time though!

You will suddenly see your electricity bill plummet as lights are not left on all over the house and showers don't take half an hour. The bathroom will stay tidy, you won't have people coming and going at all times of night, your food bills will dramatically reduce. He will return at each vacation and you'll welcome him with open arms then oddly sigh with relief when he returns to uni. At the end of the first year he will come home for the vacation and you will see he has changed from a gauche young man into an adult. Less "your" son and more "his own" man. By the time he qualifies you will see that the value of the university experience is beyond price in how it changes your child, gives them confidence, sets them up to fly.
I have seen all 3 of my kids do it.
Wife blubbed like a baby when we left the first one, got quite blasé with number three.

We took our daughter back to uni for her 2nd year yesterday.
We went through all the emotions of the OP last year and I have to say our worries have been unfounded.
She settled really quickly and got into the holiday camp mode that is university life very quickly.

We finally got home around 9,00pm last night after a 6 hour round trip and I sent her text to see if she was OK?
She replied she was out with some friends in a bar 'having cocktails'.
I smiled to myself and slept soundly.

OP. all will be OK. You have my word on that.

Dropped my youngest at Leeds Uni today.

I went there many years ago now, and stayed - great place, wouldn't change a thing :)

best of luck to your young 'un, been out tonight in a pub opposite the Uni, all the freshers are out and living it up, they'll be fine, and you're a great parent for giving them the opportunity to experience the life!

I'm an old boy of Leeds University too. Pack Horse and the Eldon were my main pubs, both still there.

It's a good place to study and an interesting city not too different to Manchester. And it's only an hour away by train for getting back to watch City.

That's where we were!!

Went for a curry in town beforehand in a Keralan restaurant opposite the Scarborough taps, where a load of Leeds fans were celebrating the victory over Huddersfield, and at one point they were all outside seemingly chanting at us diners! Fucking weird, they probably weren't looking to fight a curry house, but I did wonder :) Anyhow, we went to the Packhorse about 9 ish to find we'd missed our mate's new band by an hour, kind of the whole point of the visit.

You will be pleased to know it hasn't changed much at all over the years, and there is a couple of hot young barmaids in there to assist the mature drinker :)

My eldest went to Leeds.
We used to be consoled when we phoned him at all hours and he'd reassure us that he was in "the Library".
What a studious lad we thought.

Little did we know!

Both mine have been and you'll a massive difference within weeks. My youngest went to Liverpool and within 5 minutes you couldn't see the carpet. The eldest one went to Huddersfield and when I was there 2 weeks after she had moved in I noticed she didn't have a bed and when asked about she just said " it's in Chris's room" Like I should have known...........Unleash the shackles

For the uninitiated in Leeds student nightlife, there is a pub just outside the Uni, on the Otley Road pub crawl, converted from a library, called unimaginatively "The Library".

I was a mystery shopper for about nine years after I left Uni, and I used to survey pubs and clubs, and was given this one to do when it had just been opened a few months.

me and our kid went, parked across the road next to the curry house, and just as we were about to go in the front doors, a student staggered out, and projectile vomited onto the pavement, narrowly missing covering us in beer honk!

despite this introduction, I do still go there to see the Goth bands and nightclub upstairs every so often, not a bad night for an old git :)

Well he was out on the lash last night. Few of them went to pub this afternoon to watch match. Freshers week starts tomorrow so alls good.
House is definitely tidier too. Thanks for everyone's encouraging comments.

Just all remember when you were 18 - we knew everything and were invincible!! Our kids are just the same :)
