Kinkladze - just how good was he?

Kinkladze was a fantastic player. His goal against Southampton was probably my most memorable moment from Maine Road, alongside the 5-1. It was always a mystery as to why his time at Ajax was such a disappointment.

There is a great piece on this website celebrating Kinky's time at City:

A true legend.

I was having a chat with my brother yesterday regarding Gio. I put it to him if we could have any other player 'we'd seen' as City fans (we are both in our 30's) in today's team who would it be? And in a heartbeat he named Kinkladze.

Not sure quite how we could implement him in today's set up? But never doubt his talent as an individual. I remember in his early day's (might even have been his debut against Spurs) he twisted and turned with the ball and my Dad made a comment that even such skillful players as Barnes and Marsh 'couldn't do that?

Such a shame he arrived during our darkest hours.

My dad bought me a 5 foot poster of him that went straight onto my bedroom wall!
