Not trying to wind people up, and its hard to be negative at a time like this, but this one confused me.

I live in the states now, and was just ordering this years home shirt off the City website. With printing, the shirt cost 57 pounds. But when I changed the shipping to United states, the shipping cost went up (by about 3 pounds) but the price of the shirt dropped to 47 (10 pound discount). Anyone know why this is? Is this a ploy to boost visibility in the States? Or are they worried that the exchange rate being so poor right now (Was almost $100 before discount) prices us Yanks out of buying a new kit?

Obviously, i'm happy to pay less, just wondering what everyone else thoughts are?

Poss VAT? May be taken off as going outside UK

Ahhh you may be right here.

That just sucks for us Americans. We're missing out on all that great value in that added tax!

And if you are sending them direct from England to Canada via the online shop DON'T!!

I sent two children's tops and an adult one to Vancouver and thought oh great, I can ship it direct and it is not too expensive. What I didn't read was the very small print which mentioned import tax and it cost them over $120 (Canadian) when it arrived.

When I send things via the post office from here I fill in the customs declaration forms to state that they are a gift and they don't get charged.

Our suppliers wouldn't send a fax stating that these were 'unsolicited gifts' so my gift cost my family money!!

In future I shall have them delivered here and just change the address and fill in the customs declaration form. But it was an expensive lesson to learn!!

I ordered from the online shop to Ontario and had no extra fees whatsoever, cheap and fast shipping to boot. You must have done something wrong, your mistake!

My mum ordered one of the Umbro diamond t-shirts for my brother in Oz online after I bought one in the shop on Market St. The price for the shirt was 5 pounds cheaper, meaning it cost 3 pounds more inc. postage. Seems those in Oz and the US gcan buy their gear cheaper than we can!

It is the VAT. I've ordered online previously to cayman islands and didn't pay VAT. That should apply to all non EU countries. In theory you should have to pay the equivalent sales tax on receipt but that's down to the competence (or otherwise) of your local tax collector! Even with shipping costs my shirts costs less previously (back in UK now) then buying them in Manchester.
If you think that's not fair then blame HM government and remember it when you are next asked to put a cross in a box #justsayin

'Twill be the ubiquitous VAT, plus the fact that the Good Sheikh is aware of USAs trillion billion million squillion deficit.

Maybe British Columbia has different rules/taxes. All I know is that I ordered online and when we queried why they were being charged I was told that it was because they had to pay taxes on it and I should have read the small print. The people in BC were willing to waive them if the suppliers sent the fax as stated but they wouldn't do it.

If I had been smuggling any food stuff it would have been Eccles Cakes!! :-)

You best send it to me from now on and I will forward it on to B.C.
Please include four steak and kidney puds and two meat pies (Hollands of course) I'm really not sure what happened to your order, but B.C taxes (HST) are 12%, and Ontario taxes (HST) are 13%. I recieve stuff quite often from my mate in sunny Manc, and reccently ordered directly from the official site without ever being charged anything extra. Something smells fishy.

Barcon, It is strange because I sent stuff at Christmas last year and they never got charged then. The only reason we didn't fight harder over it was because the girls needed their kits for their mascot/player escort appearances and we had held it up while we tried to get it sorted and another two days could have meant them not having the kits in time.

I'll send you the Holland's Pies if you will send me some Maple Syrup!! :-)
