Knee replacement surgery

Good advice!!

I watched YouTube videos before having my heart valve replacement.
I didn't realise they stopped your heart beating and collapsed your lungs for 3 hours.
Freaked me out.

LoL
They don't usually bother with that for knee replacements though, too much like hard work.

For anyone considering the operation I would suggest don't put it off. My mum who's 90 had it done in June but her recovery if any has been pitiful due to her advancing years and arthritic hips which hasn't allowed her to do the necessary rehab.

Worth saying her hips are probably fucked because of her knees, she would have been compensating. So agree, get the knees done for those who have the chance.

I've had partial on both knees. Best thing I ever did. Fucking agony for the first week or so but do the physio - even though it feel pointless, it isn't. Supposedly a 10 year life span, but I was relatively young at the time for such an opp - 43 when I had my first one done. I'm 53 now and the consultant said they were as good as new in my last check up a few months ago. I got to the stage I couldn't walk without crutches for about a year so they agreed to do them for me. I'm an ex semi pro football and cricketer so they took a pounding in my youthful days. Proper bandy legged now so the cartilage just wore away on the inside of the knees. I can still play astro turf football on them and they hold up really well. It's just the rest of my body which hurts like hell now after a game haha. Good luck mate. You'll be good. Just remember the pain passes - even though after the drugs wear off on about day 2 post opp you wont think so. An do the physio - most important
I don't think I'll be too far behind you .... I've got torn meniscus in my right knee, and arthritis creeping up my lower leg to compound the problem .... i know a guy who got fed up.of waiting for the NHS and paid privately .. he had both knees done at a total cost of 18k .... he's running up and down Deansgate to get the Aldi and back now, and reckons it's the best think he's evern done!

18K good price, paid that for my hampsteads…..

The wife had one done but her ligaments and the rest were knackered so had to go back and have a thicker spacer put in. That lasted all of about 2 months before the ligaments stretched once more. Had a 3rd operation to replace the entire thing again and it's just as knackered now. The consultant got hold of a new and shiny laser guided system and they wanted to try yet again with a custom made knee joint, she declined :(

It didn't help that the last time she was in the morphine drip broke and every time she tried pumping some more in, it just got soaked up by the bed. I now know where the term bile green comes from as I had to hold the basin for her, scared the bejesus out of me. Apparently "they never break"...

Right, as this place is full of FOC's, how many have had knee replacements and anyone ever had any post op issues ?

I'm in next Monday
I have not but know several that have and every person that has had it done that I know has said it is the best thing they have ever had done. (Waiting years in a couple of case)

More painful than I expected after my right full knee replacement.
I am on waiting list for my left full knee replacement.
I can kneel up on my replacement knee pain-free it's well worth the pain.
Definitely push through the pain barrier to start physio ASAP.
Good luck

Fucking knees.

I’m just rehabbing after having my 3rd op in 18 months last Wednesday on my right knee after fucking it playing football in Jan 24.

Bucket handle tear of medial meniscus and damaged PCL first, then a full ACL reconstruction using hamstring graft, and then last week a partial medial meniscotomy.

Spend more time at Wrightington than home…
