What's WPS set up mate
I'd try what bird brain said mate, if not then I'd do a factory reset, use this if you're unsure: http://www.aftvnews.com/factory-reset-on-amazon-fire-tv-and-fire-tv-stick-explained/

:)
I have had similar with a couple of sticks, only way I got around it was to use WPS Set up on the sky router rather than key the password in, it then connected fine...I dont understand fully what the issue was as other sticks I had set up were fine, perhaps restore to default and start from fresh and check its not the power connector.

I've moved it closer now, it's right next to it. I got it today so first time set up. Keeps scanning looking for network but says not in range disconnect. Before scanning it says signal strength very good
Check all your connections . Something may be interfering with the Wifi. Have you plugged the stick straight into the TV or are you using the extender cable?

As in the link, Of course it depends on the type of router but Sky routers allow you to press a button instead of keying a password in. I think you just have to keep plugging away, eventually it will work and stay working, there are a few forums out there discussing the problem with little solution that I could see but it is very odd, try tomorrow after restoring defaults it will probably work, they did my head in too !
