Toure even past his best is a much better player than Dunne or Ben Haim so its definately a step forward looking on the positive side.

We shouldn't set the standard of buying anyone just because they are better than another player in the squad. They need to be good enough for where we want to be, not where we've come from.

And I'd argue that Toure past his best is better than Dunne, hopefully he can recapture his form otherwise it's not an upgrade at all.

so where is it we want to be....... realistically.

and please dont say top 4

Why not?

Surely we should be looking at the sort of players that will get us into the top 4.

Sometimes I think people want to build a side capable of getting us to 9th, then build a new side capable of getting us into 8th, then build a side ....

Typical happy clapper, the one who thinks the sun shines out of Dunne's arse, god i hate these type of City fans with no ambition whatsoever, the type who would be happy to see us back in Div 2/League One instead of having the opportunity to compete and challenge the top teams.

We sign the best players we possibly can to strengthen as many areas as we can, and we finish where we finish.

i know what your sayin mate but i can't believe people dont want a top class player. he has been abit poor the last 18 months but he was struck down with maleria (spelling). i saw him looking very good at the back end of last season.

i really rate him. arsenal have finished top 4 for years and also done well in the CL so hes definatly got the experience.

i would be happy with him.

it just seems that we have got a bit dissilussioned from this terry business. (me included)

you right in that we should be pushing for higher positions but top 4. lovely if we get there. i for one will be exstatic.

definatly exciting isn't it

To be fair next season is our best chance... Season after next we will have the Europa league to deal with... If you wanted to create a tournament to keep the top 4 safe it would be the Europa league.

I do not think we will have an easier shot in the next few years.

Re: toure agrees city move (merged)

Moomba: can we both agree that some of our signings since January may not prove? Can we both agree that some of our home-grown, ultimately (see what I did there, as a sop?), may not prove?

I couldn't agree more (as I said very early - after Terry anounced - in the Terry thread) that we ought to (continue to) go for broke (sorry for the Americanism, I suppose I watch too many American films, listen to too much American music, cum over too many jug-eared Marxist-American presidents, fawn over American fast-food), i.e. City should not stop attacking just because some alien fans and intentionally ignorant / deliberately obnoxious journos open their maws to spew and mew.

HOWEVER...

Even if he doesn't return to his past form, he'd still be the best CB on our team. It would also weaken Arsenal further.

Who knows, maybe Hughes believes he can get him back to his best at City.

And if they spent the money on another defender?

you can get stuffed. i have more ambition than most. i just dont want to set myself up for dissapointment. i can hear the fans around us now, sayin " bloody hell, we should be beating everton/liverpool/arsenal etc" jus does my head in. lets beat the teams we should be beatin and finish as high as we can.

we would still be stronger as long as we get rid of dunne so we would still close the gap on them just be eliminating dunnes own goals and sending offs
