Kolo Toure [Merged]

My only reservation with Toure is that he will be off for afican cup of nations, which depending on who we sign may become an issue.

but if we get him we will have dunne to come in...and lets face it, he aint that bad...and on his day is one of the best defenders around

Re: toure agrees city move (merged)

I wish people would stop banging on about PL experience, if a player is good enough he will perform in any league at any time. Putting it simply, one of the biggest parts of defending is reading of the game, and if a player can do that and stop the ball going in the net he can defend. Italian league or English, the basic principles are the same. PL experience is just a kop out for 'PL player who is getting old, but we want to feel good about the signing'.

Provided the Ivory Coast make it all the way to the final, he will miss a total of 4 Premier League games.

(H) Blackburn
(A) Everton
(A) Stoke
(H) Portsmouth

I can live with that.

But Arsenals defensive record is far far superior to ours over the time he has been there and he has been a key component in that

I agree over the years he has, although I've long considered the Arsenal defence a bit of a weakness. And a lot has to do with the fact that no fuckers can get the ball off Arsenals midfield to get to their defence, whereas ours ...

Yeah, fair point about ball retention, certainly an area which could help us defensively. Having a quick glance at their results from last season they do appear to concede less when he plays though.

Nope, I just know my football, have a good friend who's an Arsenal fan and he'd agree, go to Arsenal-Mania and you'll find the exact same opinion as me. My knowledge of European football is top class, but hey, just keep taking what you read in The Sun as Gospel won't you...

does your head hurt trying to fit though doors!

No we don't.

If it takes 6 months of pain to get a defender capable of leading us to the title we should absolutely do it.

true but any idiot can see that it not that easy to pick a top class player say playing in italy or spain and expect them all to be top class here

all the clubs have had overseas flops

Morientes at Liverpool and Forlan at scum for example........ ok not CBs but still flops and they were chosen by some top class managers

Yep, if we agree we need to hit the ground running then buying foreign increases the risk imo

Re: toure agrees city move (merged)

I'd rather sign a Vidic player and wait 6 months for him to settle and 12 months for him to be world class, than sign a decent player who will remain decent for a few years, especially in a 'project' like ours...

But you know the squad will not be afforded that time next season, 3 bad results early on and the media/some fans will be all over Hughes and the boys.

Nah, his legs turned to jelly, because he was ancient.

He was well into his 90's by the time he made the move though.

Too bad, we shouldn't make our decisions based on what the press (or even the fans) will say. We're trying to build a title winning team eventually, it would be foolish (IMO) to ignore players capable of being part of such a team for fear of a bit of pressure.

Which is why we should be signing a top class young player like Bocchetti along with other top CB's who are ready now. We desperately need to keep young players coming through and provide for the future, I'd hate to see us spending money on quick fixes all the time.

Re: toure agrees city move (merged)

Im not saying we shouldnt invest in cb for other leagues but i would bring in proven players first then take the punt!

In an ideal world i agree, but MH will be fighting to keep his job if we don't start well, hence the lack of foreign signings imo

Bringing a Vidic type in when you are already up there is a different proposition.
