Kompany calls on Premier League clubs to drop ticket prices

Well said Vincent.

But after a quick skip read of this thread, annoyed that the same old "excuses" and "great ideas" (not) from some fans is happening again -

mainly the ridiculous defense of prices by those saying ahh but if you have a cheaper season ticket people just wont bother coming to some, it needs to be expensive to force them from their homes! Have you heard yourselves...?

And the usual about attendance, that a sliding scale should be used and if you miss some you have to pay more the following year. Rubbish! The reality is not many miss through choice, punishing them by making them then pay more will just force people to either quit or feel upset at the club. I for example never missed a home match in what about 25 years (unless really really ill!), but since having a baby i missed 9 last season (a one off, was in hospital for part of it - losing over 2 litres of blood in the birth didn't do much for my health! - and always sold my seat last season on teh exchange so it wasn't empty) and will have sadly missed 5 of the legue by the end of this season. I don't want to miss them. I spent the west ham match at A+E with my 1 year old for example. Strip me of my season ticket right now i'm such an undeserving fan eh. (Cue the people replying saying "i said there were exceptions mate" as if we can show a sick note to the club and they'll say oh all right we wont charge you full whack. I mean come on guys!!!!)

I just think those using the arguments above need to have a think about what they're saying.
Cheaper for all please, not a competition about who can get to 100% (i'd love to be able to be doing that again btw before anyone says anything), and a seat at 400 rather than 800 doesn't mean the 400 ones will think ah its a bit cold today i will waste my investment and not bother going, yet the 800 will think damn ive paid a lot i better put a jumper on and brave it ;) I think you'll find our main fan base is not so bloody fickle.

Rant over, off to give my 15 month old his lunch.

Many blues have been priced out of football, as many other clubs supporters have, not just the ticket price but the full cost of going to games. With the convenience of many games being televised, many will just watch us on TV. Former supporters who went home and away are not going now. Reducing ticket prices is a step forward in enticing fans back.

The game itself, the matchday 'experience' is not actually that much of an 'experience' imo.

The football now, under Pep, is the best ever & you get so much more idea of what it actually is, by being there & seeing all the stuff the camera can't translate, but for me, the experience of being at a football game now, if you take out the actual football on the pitch, is 'meh'.

When this Pep era ends, I'm not sure we will ever match it again for quality (Barca haven't imo). I might chuck it in, depending what comes next.

If both ends of the ground were rocking, with younger folks creating a great atmosphere, I would definitely not be thinking that way, I'd know already, I'd still want to go irrespective, for the fun of it.

Cheaper ticket prices & a bit of planning, at the ground, can bring that about imo.

The only way things will change is if the accountants that administer the game are forced out and replaced by people like Vinny. But unfortunately I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.

As for our club I think we are treated better than most but even we aren't that great and have made numerous mistakes and think the whole ticketing policy should be ripped up and replaced. I had a season ticket for 30 years up until this season as the financial cost on the family and my growing disillusion of the way tickets are distributed to favour people with more cash or corporate guests. Final straw for me was last season when wanted to treat the kids and wife and tried to buy tickets for the family stand. Only to be told it was sold out. However I could pay three times as much to sit in the third tier. At the game I noticed whole sections of empty seats and when I complained to the club was informed that these are blocked out for corporate and guests of the club.

Unfortunately this is not just an isolated incident as posts on here regarding tickets for away games, moving fans to fit in corporate seats etc go to show.

Rant over and here's hoping someday that Vinny will take his sword then storming the ticket office and ivory towers of the F.A.
You're quite right to rant about it. The Loyalty Points system now means nothing (don't get me wrong, it is a flawed system anyway and doesn't take into account people's attendance of games from the 90s+80s and going back over the decades even before then) but means so much that it is stopping fans who are just as deserving of away tickets from getting them because there are less available every year for long term supporters because more are going to corporates.

Haven't United fans forced United to stop doing this? How did they do it? Can we not get one of them over here to tell us how?

What I've noticed at City since Soriano came in, is that we seem to have less and less voice and power as a set of fans. Doesn't matter how long we've been going it just seems like anyone with money can come along and usurp us all at the drop of a tenner.

Do our Supporters Clubs or groups like 1894 have any voice or power? Have they ever? Will they ever? I know that across Europe the fans have so much of a voice and power that they are almost as important as the board in how the club is run from a fan side of things (obviously not from a team side of things).

I know exactly what you mean mate. I don't go for the match day experience either, I went to Maine road plenty of times for that. But until the moneymen came, we couldn't compete, we just accepted the fact and turned up hoping to get a result.

Nowadays we are a million miles from where we were and watching games live is a complete joy. The way the team moves up and down the pitch in a military formation type way, and like you mention, this cannot be appreciated by TV cameras. I watched us win fuck all for many years, so I'm keeping going to see us play great enjoyable football. Long may it continue...

Excellent post.

His suggestion is great as it sounds like it wouldn’t affect you.

There are a few on here that simply pick and choose and enjoy announcing they aren’t going “because it’s raining”. If SC were £200 for a season there’d be many that just picked and chose.
Can you explain why his suggestion is great? My example is one of many. People can't go to games for various reasons: illness, bereavements, family matters, holidays, travel issues, work, I'm sure people can add to the list. Yes some people can' t be arsed, but I like many aren't in that group. So, think before you respond because you've made yourself look silly.

I`m not asking the premier League to give a fuck about the fans, but I`m a 100% sure the many sponser of teams, trophies and leagues want to see full stands not rows and rows of empty seats as above. In fact having full grounds could create higher revenue streams than empty ones

The thing is, we've been telling City this via BM, other forums, City's selected fan working groups, City's own specific departments, common-sense, etc, yet Khaldoon, Soriano and the other board members aren't listening, and aren't interested. Even the sight of 1000's of empty seats still isn't enough to change the mind-set of those running the club. They are still happy to charge £50 -£60 for seats, and have 100's and 1000's remain empty, instead of charging less and filling them. Don't forget, even though we have £299 season tickets, season tickets and matchday ticket prices went up again this season. Think we've had one price freeze since Sheikh Mansour bought the club.

CAN THE FANS STOMACH ANOTHER SEASON TICKET AND MATCH DAY TICKET PRICE RISE NEXT SEASON?

Let's see if those running the club feel they can push seat prices any further, and the patience of City fans once again.

One more point.

At some point Pep will go, and with it his beautiful football. And what if the new Manager coming in fails? How many empty seats then at the Etihad. Success is not guaranteed. Neither is support. If it all starts going tits up on the field, who's going to pay £60 to watch a team that isn't winning? Look no further than Arsenal. From a full stadium every home match, there are now 100's and1000's of empty seats. Also United under Moyes and Van Gaal. Hardcore fans will always be loyal. But it's the part-time and glory hunting fans who ultimately always fill the stadium.
