Kompany/DeJong/Hughes

I find this argument of NDJ to hold us back from scoring to be incredibly naive. In the 5 games he's started this season we've scored 15 goals.

The reason we scored so many less last season was the way we were set up to not lose and also the fact that we didn't have Kun, Nasri or Clichy for the extra attacking threat. In addition Balo was off form (by his own addmission) and had injuries, Dzeko took a while to find his feet, Silva and Kolarov took a while to settle in and, in general, the team needed a season of gelling to bed in and learn each other's game.

There is no reason a dutch international with 54 caps can't play in our system. Yes, we may be a bit more defensive than with Yaya or Barry but our front 4 with backup from NDJ's partner should be capable of scoring potfuls with NDJ as holding mid and keeping it simple. He's not incapable of making good passes and his pass completion rate is great, with our play-the-ball-around looking for a gap system he should be fine.

As much as I dislike Hughes this argument is outdated and old. No need to even mention that dole dossers name on here now.

It's often argued that Kompany and DeJong were signed by Hughes to give him credit.

1. They were spotted by scouts.
2. Kompany was played out of position in midfield.
3. Kompany played very rarely at the start of the 2009/10 season - since Mancini's first game, Kompany has played nearly every match and at CB.

Hughes played him out of position and clearly rated him behind toure and lescott, and even played onouha ahead of him at CB in one game against Spurs away (3-0 loss).

4. De Jong is very limited. He shields a back 4, and nothing more. Everyone is seeing Barry doing this and also getting forward/passing etc...
5. De Jong no longer is of the quality needed to play in our 1st choice team but is a good squad player.
6. Given his role as a sweeper-upper, his position in midfield with Kompany in a 4-4-2 was not correct.

7. Given essentially 6 defenders(back 4 + CM 2), how was Hughes so bad at getting us defensively prepared?

Get a grip, it was over 2 years ago and you're still talking about Mark Hughes? Do you still really care? Most don't.

Crap. If we start looking to replace players of NDJ,s quality, then it will be a free for all.
He is quality and we will need him this season. It,s horses for courses and right now we don.t really need a DM as we are humping everyone. Eventually we will need to defend more and then he will be invaluable.

I'm with you......Hughes out! Oh wait.

I do wonder if some posters probably walk into a pub and shout "you all look like cunts"

I don't really understand what you're point is with this? When we signed Kompany he was bought as a defensive midfielder so therefore wasn't played out of position. We had a couple of injuries a centre half and Kompany filled in the role, he performed so well there he's made it his own ever since.

I find your observations about De Jong to be very naive. He's much more than a 'sweeper upper'. The work rate he produces and the protection he gives not only to the back four but how much of a licence he gives the attacking players is unbelievable.

He's struggle to get a 1st team spot this season due to the outstanding performances of the team as a whole. He's still got a huge part to play at this football club.

Mark Hughes is just another small part of this glorious football club. Let's just leave him where he belongs, in the past

Kompany has always been a centre back, he's never played in Midfield. This is why he was played out of position!
