Kompany injured again...

Okay....but it is fairly obvious now that "a run of games without injury" is very unlikely now.

He is a great guy, great Captain etc. but how many months has he been injured now in the last 1-2 years? How many games has he missed? And it seems to get worse not better.

So why would you want him as a back up?

Either he's fit to play most PL and CL games, in which case he would be a first choice. Or he should be replaced.

Because he is still great when fit and has been an absolutely vital part of all our success. Great spokesman for the club and all around top bloke. I am sure he is great to have in the dressing room too.

Unless he wants to leave I think we should keep him. Having said that we should be under no illusion that he will ever be playing as many games as he used to ever again, so yes he needs replacing. MDM will be gone now. We should get Denayer back and bed him into the first team, sell either the Mangler or Otamendi and get a top Center Back. Alternatively, give Mangler and Otamendi a season or half a season under Pep to see if they really are as shit and overpriced as they look or if this has been a coaching problem all along.

I am hoping it is the latter. I think under Mancini they would have looked like World Beaters.

Our injuries have got worse since we installed grassmaster pitches in the stadium and the CFA. Not only the first team, there's been a number of significant injuries amongst the EDS too. I don't think there's enough 'give' in them, with a player's studs stopping suddenly and causing jarring or a tear.

Totally agree the plastic substance with grass does seem to be causing issues. I wonder how many injuries have occurred at home and in training versus on the road.

Do teams playing City at the Etihad pick up more than the average number of injuries? Its not something that registers with me, but if the pitch is the problem then it ought to also affect the opposition.

Haven't we always had a Desso Grassmaster pitch in the Etihad stadium i.e. since 2003? Pretty sure we had it on the training pitches at carrington too before we moved to the CFA.
Pictures and videos that I've seen from last summer show that the pitch was just deeply scarified before covering over for the cranes to put the south stand roof on and not relaid and I couldn't say when this was actually last done.

If the last relaying was as recent as 2013 or 2014 then you may have a point that there is some relationship there but consider that Leicester and Spurs (+ training ground) also have this system and have been relatively free of the same type of injuries as us.
(As do Arsenal, Liverpool and the rags who have).

In my humble opinion, his injuries have increased due to having to do defensive midfield duties alongside his CB role (if he sets up with Toure/Fernandinho CM pairing). More protection to defense = less stupid late stretching for a ball etc.
100% bang on. It annoys me so much when Blues slate oiur defenders when being pulled out of position, but never ask why they're having to do that. It's shite.

There's quite a lot of stuff online regarding these pitches and whether they are the cause of injuries. Also, Leicester do a lot of work regarding pitch hardness and go as far as measuring opponent's pitches before a game, for example. Pure speculation on my part, of course, but if the pitches are a problem, maybe we are not managing their usage properly?

Interesting article from last December.

Have they always trained on one though, maybe it's not so much the games, but the hours of training. I only say that because I read Bayern are blaming a training pitch for all their muscle injuries this year and are having it dug up and replaced.
