Kompany statement (missing the euros)

Terrible news for Vinny & Belgium but he needs the summer to get himself fit again & ready for the new season.

The correct thing to do, if he went to Euro's his career would possibly be over, with us anyway, get on holiday rest properly and come back free off any injuries.

Best thing for him. He has rushed back far too often.

He'll be great again. Whether that's with us or not, I don't know. But there'll be at least one more season in him. Whether we can wait for that will be the issue.

I hope he recovers well and captains us to glory mind you.

Sensible decision on Vinny's part.

Hopefully it will give him another couple of years with us and the World Cup with Belgium.

Maybe his only way to save his carear now is to retire from international football 50 odd club games a season plus 10 internationals just isn't do able for him!

If he does nothing between now and the start of next season but rest, recuperate, and replenish it should see him overcome the constant niggles he's experienced over this calf issue. If he fails to come through or breaks down early next season . . . . . . . . . .!

Great news for Vinny and us, for Belgium, not so much. Maybe next time we tell them they shouldn't pick a player of ours returning from injury before sending him back crocked again, they'll listen.

If it's true that someone has had a word with Vinny then that's great news for Vinny and City , it means that Pep ain't gonna mess around when his tenure starts ,shape up or ship out!

Big summer for him then. Needs to get these problems sorted or he's probably done here sadly.

I've asked this before. Where exactly is he going if he's done? Who would buy him if his problems persist?

This must've been a real tough decision for Kompany. He was very eager to guide Belgium as their captain and with a good chance of winning the Euro's as well. I hope for his and City's sake there is someone who can actually put his muscle injuries behind him. And let Kompany have a fair share of competing under Pep. Kompany certainly is a fighter but it will be very hard.

my daughter who's studying sport rehabiltation said it seems that they are concentrating on his calfs and forgetting about the rest of his body. Which is why he keeps picking up different injuries

I was at the CFA a few weeks ago and Vinny was having extended treatment. I don't know the exact details but it was over an hour or two. I got the sense that the Club and Vinny were pulling out all the stops to help overcome the injuries. It was before the Newcastle game so at least he was able to get out on the pitch and played against Madeid a week or so later!

I imagine that he's been given an ultimatum.

In his current condition he'd be fit enough to make the Euros but he'd break down within five minutes of the first game, therefore ending any chance of ending his career with City. But if he misses the Euros, spends three months training, resting and talking to specialists with Pep, he can come back in a better condition and manage himself into his final years.

I'm glad he's chosen the second option.

What else do you think clubs do with players who they can't sell on due to injury? They pay up their contracts and wish them the best. We did it with Michael Johnson.
