Nobody ever talks about the US' role in this, as if NK is the sole villain in this... There are 2 important factors attributing to NK's bluster. One, the imposed sanctions. The US goes on about NK starving its citizens, so the solution? Impose sanctions to make it even worse, and contribute to increased famine. Great idea, make the country even more authoritarian, and insular. Secondly, the military exercises the US is performing in South Korea, a penis waving show of aggressive, military power, in a region they want to dominate. This is becoming even more prevalent in Obama's Asia-Pivot strategy:
