In fairness, I suggest Packham is simply reaching out to Lineker in the knowledge that he has a strong following on Twitter and greater influence where animal welfare issues cross over into the world of football. Give the bloke a break. He's done an enormous amount of good in this area in recent years.

It just seems strange to pick Lineker, of all those he could have picked. To me, anyway. He might have done better reaching out to a high profile current player with an army of followers on social media. Someone that those who are influenced by social media would take more note of. Kane, Salah, Ronaldo, Sterling, Saka, etc etc. Those types of personalities. Whether a current player would be willing to call out another current player is another question, though.

Weird to single out Lineker when he has nothing to do with it. Nobody should be pressured on social media into things, it's a total dick move, yeah it would be good if somebody with his influence backed it but let him do it off his own back if at all.

I wouldn't necessarily disagree with any of that Jim. I just don't understand the need on the part of some to vilify Packham, someone who's probably done more to raise awareness of animal welfare matters than anyone.
