45 million actually is bad business.
1. Its about 15 million above the FB transfer record.
2. Its for a 27 year old player who is good but not exceptional.
3. He is not indespensible to his team.

If we can't get a deal btw 20-30 million we should walk away.
You know it's gonna be more than that, so in reality you are saying we should not go for him. So what's a credible alternative?

Is he the best homegrown player for the position?

I would need to think about that but off the top of my head it is certainly true that he is one of the best English full backs at present and
if this is the main criteria we are concerned about then a strong case can be made for signing him. Furthermore, if the manager is convinced that he is the man for the job
then lesser mortals like us have to accept that.

Good post.

Even if he were five years younger, I still believe we would be grossly overpaying for a player who is by no means exceptional.

Alves and Fabinho would have been my choice.

Yes. It always amazes me when posters get pissed off abt the price. Who gives a fuck its not their money.
At the same time a lot of people who don't want to talk about the price of expensive players are generally quick to declare others a bargain.
I don't get particularly stressed about prices but it is always good to know when we are doing good business.

I don't get these statements that Walker is worth at most XX pounds. Does anybody seriously think that he would be sold to any club for 25 or 30 million? That would just never happen, therefore he is worth more than that, namely exactly what somebody is willing to pay for him.

Walker would represent an improvement on the current situation
Hardly difficult given the fact we currently have no senior right backs at the club.

Its not our money, if the people in power want to pay it, then let them get on with it, and get behind whoever they bring in.

I'm not Walker's biggest fan personally, but if Pep wants him there will be a good reason, and what we ultimately pay is irrelevant to me.

Why do you surmise that we would need to sell a player to accommodate both Fabinho and Alves?
Because if we buy the players we are linked to and sell the ones we expect we will have 17 non homegrown, if you replace Walker with Fabinho we will have 18.

£45m ! Haven't you heard it's not your money so why worry, personally I'd rather we didn't pay £10m over the odds, do that 5 times and that's £50m out of
£45 million forget it - move on.

£45 million ??
Bloody hell, is it April 1st ?
the transfer kitty which could have been spent on someone who could make a difference on the pitch rather than thinking oh well, it's not my money

It's only 5 million more than we are paying for Mendy. I'm not a huge fan of this transfer but if Pep has his mind set on him then we'll probably end up paying.
