The money originally quoted is vastly overpaying imo. Any increase is fucking ridiculous.

But remember who we are dealing with....

That's just stupidity, not logic.... you know fine well that we've been rinsed for a number of years on deals like this, clubs deliberately playing hardball which upsets the settling in period for the player... we need to hit the ground running this year and not have players filtering in on the back end of August....

Walker is not moving country, he already speaks the language and plays for the team Guardiola has said is most like his kind of football. Walker is one player who we can afford to get a bit later in the window if needs be.

Disagree totally, we, and I'm 110% certain pep, will want this done no later than mid July for pre season. We've set our stall out already for a reason, and as stated, done this arse about face...

And Levy will know this, he will be in no hurry to sell him early he can wait to the final 2 weeks of the window until says ok I'll take 45m

Would we not expect to get the other deals in before then anyway though, thus making Walker one of the last ones ?

It's not an exact science though bud, it depends how integral to our plans he is (imo, very), it's the two most important areas of recruitment we'll face this year, right and left fullback, it transforms our team exponentially!

Can't disagree, but I was just wondering whether they expect to get the majority of deals done at suitable prices, then deal with the pains in the arse at the end having signed players at 'fair' rates.

Even though he might be an integral part of our forthcoming season, i dont think we can afford to wait and drag on with this one (walker) i'm afraid. Lets just see how hard Levy wants to play and show him that we got others (Bertrand) we can buy.

I suppose it will depend on how quickly we can get Bertrand and Mendy in. If they sorted out quickly then we will be in a position to make a call on Walker's price. Sanchez will be expensive purely as Arsenal will need to show a premier league premium.

If we get Bernardo, Mendy, Bertrand, Ederson in then overpaying for Walker isn't an utter disaster. Any other signings other than Sanchez will be on the basis of right player at the right time then absolute necessity (like full backs).

Having said that personally I hope we add a midfielder if Fernando, Delph and Garcia are off.

Our management knew they'd be dealing with Levy shenanigans while trying to sign Walker. So it stands to reason that we've planned for unreasonable price hikes with alternative targets in mind.

Unless Levy really wants to sell Walker for whatever reason - player demand/need funds to acquire other targets - then I'm very skeptical that this deal will go through.

Who knows - we seem to be genuinely interested in Walker at a reasonable price - but if Levy won't deal fairly - probably the backup plan is to use Walker as a negotiating tactic for other targets.
=============
For me, Walker seems to be a pretty good RB who would definitely improve our squad and as a bonus would fulfill one of the home grown slots.

But Pep plans to use academy players to fill home grown requirements - so this takes bit off of Walker's value.

My expectation - we don't sign Walker.

Unless our other RB targets fall through - we have no compelling reason to sign Walker in particular - and unless Walker demands a trade for us - or Spurs are desperate for funds to pursue other targets - neither Spurs nor us have a compelling reason to push this deal through.

We can afford to play hard ball here. Gone are the days when we roll onto our backs and have our tummy tickled. Walker is not worth 40m never mind closer to £60m - I wouldn't pay over £30m for him - and that includes a premium for being homegrown - but then again it's not my money. If we pull out Spurs will be left with a player who has shown he has not a lot of loyalty so win win for me. There must be better targets at the fees being quoted and I hope we move on - he's not on the same level as Bernardo Silva for instance.

In a world where a goalkeeper with one season in the Portuguese league is worth £35m, an English international - with 8 years of Premier League experience, now in his prime and widely regarded as the best right back in the league - has to be worth considerably more. Even if you don't think so, you can't blame Daniel Levy for using such logic. Besides which, as I said before, all the numbers are guesswork. We have no real idea of City's or Spurs' valuation of Walker.

If it all falls through, I don't see there being a real issue. Walker isn't desperate to leave. Spurs aren't desperate to sell.

I'll be happy if we get Walker but if not there's Nelson Semedo, he's 23 and Barcelona are interested, they're talking about £40m and you have a good 10 years in him. Even if he doesn't work out he has resale value. I'm sure Pep and everyone else officially involved are working on alternative players.

Fair enough but my understanding is he wouldn't sign a new deal because he wanted to be nearer to his family in Yorkshire. The upside on Ederson is huge, and at 23 with a six year deal it will be a big surprise if he fails to improve and he is widely regarded as the next big thing. Walker is one of those that despite having 18months of great form and improvement the possibility is he may just have had a couple of career years and will fall away - especially given his main attribute is his pace. Levy is doing exactly what he should and I wish we were a bit smarter when coming to moving players on but we shall soon know if he is coming.

City have put Levy in the driving seat by getting shut of our fullbacks early. Levy will just hang on now til the windows closing.

Best RB in the league. If we don't pay what Spurs are asking, then no doubt Chelsea will, and that would be really shit for two reasons - one because he'd improve whoever signs him, and two because it would make us look smalltime compared to them, which im my opinion is even worse.

Show ambition, pay the asking price, improve the team, win the league.

No fucking about hoping second rate foreign signings might be ok and ending up battling for top 3 or 4 while the chavs hoover up titles. Fucking sick of that shit.
Do you really drive Tornado's - kin el

TBF it wasn't rocket science that we'd be after all new fullbacks, think Levy just does what's best for his club, much as we think he's a **** he's only doing what we'd like Trixi to do in selling negations.
