That’s my honest opinion, I probably know LA better than most.
Would I suggest walking around Compton, while waving a wad of cash? No, but it’s not as dodgy as people make it out to be.

I’ve been here 32 years and never had a spot of bother, it certainly feels safer than Langley, where I grew up.

And I see people recommending Vegas and San Francisco, they are both way dodgier than LA and you are more likely to be targeted for crime, as a tourist, in these two cities.

We have stayed at The Ambrose in Santa Monica. Lovely place. If you want to travel around its worth hiring a car.

Mate, I wager this poster doesn't know shit about LA. He spent post after post lecturing me about how much he knew about San Francisco culture and politics (where I've lived for 40 years) and generalized about all of it until I finally put him on ignore.

It just depends on where you go in any of the three towns. Everyone is a tourist in Vegas; LA is so big you can blend in; it's in San Francisco where we can spot tourists instantly because they congregate in certain places no San Franciscan goes (Fisherman's Wharf especially) and they wear shorts in the summertime when the wind is blowing 25 and its foggy because they didn't read the guidebooks about the weather :).

In general I would agree I feel safer in most of LA than in SF; I've never felt unsafe in Vegas but I detest Vegas and only go there for work.
