Yes Madrid have gotten weaker in the attacking areas, but if they switch to a 4-3-3 it would work, but it would mean not playing their shiny new toy James. As you said Modric and Kroos is not only weak defensively against the top teams, but lacks legs. Pesonally I think the Mourinho team of 2012 was the best Madrid team in recent years and their record points tally and record goals show it. Losing to the Bayern team of 2012 on pens is no shame and I don't think the 2014 team would have necessarily gotten past them either. Despites Ozil poor performance in the last year and the world cup he was still better than James and Di Maria is just as good as Bale. Pepe was better under Mourinho too.

Just when you think teams such as Real Madrid and Bayern are going to start really dominating they end up going backwards Bayern with Pep's tactics and Real with Perez's galactico policy. Great for the neutral though cause Bayern could be really unstoppable if Pep stopped messing about.

Agree 100%, but like I said it keeps things interesting at least.
 
Good result for them, but Barca are rebuilding this year and don't look that great. Messi has had a great game and has not been as selfish as he has been in the last couple of years. Looked a lot more dangerous when Neymar came on, but conceded too many chances. The biggest difference is just how weak the midfield is.
 
Madrid lost and they deserved to lose after taking a 2 goal lead. They were woeful at the back, but the bigger worry is that after Sociedad came back, not one of those galacticos was prepared to take control of the game. The lack of leadership was startling. Madrid have spent so much money to weaken the team. Kroos cannot defend. Madrid are pretty much Ferguson's United, but with less talented wingers. Bale scored a great goal, but apart from that he was anonymous.

Keep being told by armchair rags that lady man is joining them again next season .
 
Madrid look absolutely amazing here. Some of that play then leading up to the Benzema header was Godlike! City and Arsenal played some nice stuff today in spells but that then from Madrid was on another planet!

Atléti not in the game at all at the moment, even though the score line would suggest otherwise.
