Are you people stupid! There is no difference between their policies now.
There was a diference when they all started out, with the socialists believing that the state should intervene with how people are living, and should be responsible for taking money from the more well off, and distributing it to the less well off. This was done by high taxation. This led to the wellfare state, and the national health service....all good things.
The opposite of this is what the conservatives stood for, which was basically allow people to keep more of their money, and people's own conscious would make people help the less well off, by starting up more charities which would help people. Letting people (entrepeneurs) keep more of their money would also encourage them to start more businesses and employ more people, so they could earn their own money.
So going right back to basics, your old choice was to believe that the state should be responsible for looking after the less well off in council estates, (or lazy work shy slackers as some would call them), by taking more of your hard earned off you and giving it to them, or to beleive that if people were allowed to keep their money, they would employ more people so there would be less needy, and charities would look after the underprivileged.
Those days have all gone now, and they are both the same anyway so it doesnt matter.
