Lack of pace

Aguero is a concern at the moment, but for me that's all down to missing most of pre-season. All his muscle injuries stem from that.

Ribery is not quick. You watch him again. He never runs away from anyone
He may be a Spanish international but is he showing it in a city shirt? He doesn't do it for me can't beat a man to save his life. Will give Ribery another watch then mate, always believed he had pace.
Navas has beaten plenty of full backs but he cuts inside a lot. I think he has had a good season for us. Not sure he's an automatic starter but a very good signing
I'm sure your in the minority with that one.

Ribery is extremely quick, don't know how you can think otherwise?

We won the league with this so called 'lack of pace' and if anything have now added to it with Fernandinho, Navas and Negredo (vastly underestimated pace wise, is very quick when he gets going). There is no such thing as a lack of pace unless you're playing Fifa.

Navas would be great in the Johnson impact sub role, but Pellegrini likes him as a starter. He's had some cracking games, but can be very ineffective too.

When I look at our team, I wonder if Reus could add that extra pace, trickery and directness down the left, with Nasri moving elsewhere on the pitch if we play only one up top.

Dortmund play a very direct game though, so who knows if Reus would slot into our system as seamlessly as at BVB. His pass completion is worse than everyone in our squad bar Dzeko and ball retention seems to be what our club loves (the Barcelona way).

Just seems, though, that most top clubs have at least one fast, direct, 'scary' player... Di Maria, Bale, Neymar, Pedro, Robben, Ribery, Hazard, Walcott, Sturridge, Reus. Navas is our closest thing but doesn't really go at players like these and scare teams.

That end bit is exactly what I meant, you just put it better lol. Navas isn't direct enough, we need a pace merchant who won't be scared to run past players and make something out of nothing.

He isn't. Jones handled him quite comfortably

Ribery keeps the ball close to his feet and is technically as good as there is, but I don't think he's quicker than Milner. If he is, not by much

You don't see Ribery beating people with his speed. He does it by one twos, close control and clever movement. There are much much quicker wide players than him.

He doesn't take on his full back in the David White manner
Well I disagree, he has very good close control but to me he is fast as well. Navas is poor and Aguero can't string more than 4-5 games together without getting injured so it is a pretty viable concern.

Yeah just cos ribery is quick on fifa doesn't mean he is in real life mate. I agree, never seen his use blistering pace to get past anyone. Quick feet, with average pace.

-- Sun Apr 13, 2014 10:54 pm --

I agree, I think I closest thing is jovetic. Looks to be a very direct player who runs from deep. Quicker than the average player, but not blistering mind.

Ribery was rapid but now is getting on in years and has lost a couple yards, which is not necessarily a bad thing as hes much better technically now

Pace is not everything, Navas has got plenty of it. But how often does he take a player on? Milner should be playing every game. He's not the fastest & certainly not the slowest. He works well with Zab. Pops up all over the place & is not soft. So underrated by many & it looks like Pellegrini is one of them.

I would like to see Milner in the middle where he played for Villa

Navas doesn't have to beat a player for pace. You can do it that way. You can also do it by give and go.

Navas has been very effective all season. Today wasn't his most effective game, but I think some of the criticism is a bit OTT

Remember the crosses he put in for Jovetic at the end against Saints
