Lake swallowing his tongue

I'm now wondering if my memory is failing me. I tell the story of the quietest moment at maine road being when he fell down against villa. Wasn't that when he did his knee in?

Mid 20's from memory, probably higher towards the end of the season ( that was a promotion season wasn't it? ).

I'm happy to be corrected by more stat-minded blues, just an impression I have of those days.

remember the game v. spurs when he clashed with gazza and gazza was running round the pitch holding his ears saying lakey has big ears

I will always remember that day.
As others have said that after about 5 minutes there really was an eerieness at the stadium.
I was seated near to the front of the main stand that day and you could actually see the look of horror on both sets of players,as the minutes went by.
The Leicesster fans I`m certain were the first to start chanting Lakeys name when he was lead off on the stretcher,as the City fans were still shocked.
That was one of the finest things I have ever witnessed from any away fans.
It wasn`t until half time that the announcement was made that Lakey was fine and the place errupted with an almighty chant.
One of the worst things that ever happened to City was Lakey having to retire, through injury. He would have played without doubt for England for a very long time.
Always remember when we played Spuds at home and Gazza took the piss out of poor old Lakeys earholes. They did stick out a bit !!

Early on that season we were down to less than 20k for a few games - we got off to a bad start Oldham stuffed us at Maine Rd, Roger Palmer hat-trick IIRC.
