In your first paragraph you said ‘Messi bankrupted the club’ and in the last paragraph you were ‘baffled’ they let him go as he is a ‘commercial monster’?

Doesn’t paragraph one answer paragraph three?

Yeah I see what you mean that doesn’t makes perfect sense.

But if they didn’t throw all that money around at players that weren’t up to it instead of giving it to him they’d be in a better place is what I was getting at. It’s not just his contracts that ruined them it was trying to replace him as well.

So they bankrupted themselves trying to replace him rather than him bankrupting them? You've had a bit of a nightmare with that post.
 
He's very likely the best player in the world already, and only 17. Crazy.

Barca have arguably 4 players that are the best in the world at their roles. Its no wonder they're finding so much success, despite the below average defense. Pedri, Raphinha, Frenkie, and Yamal are different gravy.

If this were a video game I'd slap a 300m offer and a huge contract on his head and see how Barca reacts. Unfortunately, I imagine this guy is as untouchable as they come.

No surprise about Ansu Fati's wages...

I think around the time the money issues started it came out that their centre back Samuel Umtiti despite not being good enough to get in our first XI, he was actually on about 600k a week in wages I shit you not they were that batshit crazy, with the wages they handed out to everyone this is what nearly destroyed them.

People was saying no wonder they're gonna be bankrupt when they found out Antoine Griezmann was on 700k, yes I really did just write that Antoine Griezmann was on 700k a week wages.
It wasn't anything to do with Messi their troubles it was the wages they paid everyone else, they pretty much gave all the other players whatever they wanted too.

Even bang average players were on crazy money that attacker they were strangely allowed to as an emergency after their keeper got injured Martin Braithwaite, he was on over 100k a week and let's be honest Braithwaite wouldn't have been good enough for us pre takeover.
Neto that Bournemouth keeper who gets nowhere near the Brazil team and is about 6th or 7th or even 8th choice for Brazil, at Barca 6 years ago he was on roughly the current wages of Ederson no wonder Eddy is meant to be unhappy.

They even had Coutinho and Frenkie De Jong as other players on higher wages than any City player has ever been paid, so it wasn't just Messi's wages that near bankrupted Barca as Messi brought them far more than they paid him.
Complete stupidity ruined Barca they were making so much money it seemed impossible to bankrupt them, instead of being sensible they massively overspent to an extreme on players they didn't need, they just threw extra money at all their players no matter what their actual ability level was, when people look back at this shambolic mess it should be seen as a lesson in how not to run your team.
