Lamont Dozier RIP

thats like saying you are a city fan and have never heard of Colin Bell !

Don't be stupid that's a daft analogy. Most people who listen to music don't bother to know who actually writes it. Again most people wouldn't know him at all, not everyone is a legend who dies.

Ha yes I was around in the Grease era and remember how big it was even though I thought it was bloody awful to be honest. Agree that ONJ achieved fame that reached the ( white) masses but in terms of overall contribution to the industry Lamont will be remembered by the music world as one of the greats. It would have been nice had the bbc for example, at least give us a little tribute, or even make the front page of their site !

Colour hasn't got anything to do with it, the white masses as you put it is the wrong slant to put on this.

Whoever this fella was he has his name in lights on the BBC website, which if I am brutally honest is more than I would have expected.

Was a major player in shaping the Motown and then Invictus sound. Very sad news, the queue at the pearly gates has some serious talent from the last couple of weeks? RIP Sir.

He was part of the brilliant Holland -Dozier-Holland song writing team who were geniuses. You could probably make a good case they were, outside Lennon and McCartney, the best songwriting team of the 60s. It always astonishes me how people who can't read or write music can write something so brilliant.

So many classic Motown songs were penned by them. It's hard to imagine the 60s without that iconic sound.

RIP and thanks for the music.
Absolutely. Their work holds its own against anything in popular music. So many brilliant songs I would struggle to pick a top ten let alone a favourite.

I agree that most people don't take much interest in writers, producers and arrangers, generally only the singers. However those who do take an interest and the music industry in general, artists, critics, songwriters, arrangers, producers, etc would say that Lamont was an absolute legend ! I also thnnk most people of a certain age would have heard of Holland Dozier Holland.

I don't see him mentioned on the main page of the bbc Web site and there has been no tribute on bbc news unless I missed it, which in my opinion is an absolute disgrace considering his contribution to popular music history. When you think of the lengthy tributes they pay to much much lesser talents it makes you wonder.
