Hi I need peoples help as I'm a complete techophobe and dunce when it comes to laptops etc.

My current laptop doesn't seem powerful enough to play football streams. Anything over 480p and it struggles even though I have very fast infinity Broadband.

What laptop should I be looking for?

Will a processor of AMD A8 or Intel i5 at 2.3ghz and 8gb ram be enough? Or are there other things I should look for?

Thanks.

i5 is good boss. Even shared graphics are not bad now for your purposes so it does not have to have a dedicated nvidia card or similar. Try for 6 or 8GB of ram if you can but 4 will do.

Thanks. Will look out for some deals on some.

I have one now which is Intel i3 and 4gb and it's rubbish for streaming.

What os is it on? Maybe a light Linux distribution might improve things

100% this!!! it just brings PCs back to life for free, miles better than Windows and it will save you a few hundred quid

even a technophobe will be able to download and install it (plus it's always good to learn something new)

make sure all your files are backed up somewhere seperate first, download the software (Ubuntu or Linux mint, my preference is ubuntu https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop) and follow a step by step guide

first choose one of either dvd or usb method:

https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/burn-a-dvd-on-windows
or
https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-ubuntu

then follow the steps here

https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/install-ubuntu-desktop

then you're ready to enjoy your laptop again.
