Some refurbished machines on eBay are absolute bargains. Got experience. Just sayin'

Avoid apple and make sure it's a pc. It's more compatible with everything. Make 200 quid your limit. Can always upgrade later.

I'd go further. If he's a Computer Science student, buy him the bits and let him assemble it himself.

the only problem with referbs and self assembly is no warranty.... although self assembly you may get warranty's on some of the bits.

He'll have a tube of coolant paste in a draw for the rest of his life too!.
