Last Film You Saw

On a whim — God knows why, I just wanted to watch something that wouldn't make any demands on me and while away a couple of hours — I rented Wall Street last night.
God but what a pile of horseshit! The dialogue is just ridiculously clunky, it almost seems to be self-parody at times, and I've never quite noticed before what a limited actor Michael Douglas is. He's so one dimensional it just isn't true. I see that it picked up an Academy award or two. Well, ok, whatever.

Cape Fear. I hadn't seen since it came out in 91. What a great film and cast. The scene with De Niro and Juliette Lewis in the theatre was so good.

9/10

Maybe one of the last truly great films that Scorsese made. Nobody, but nobody, does menace like De Niro. (Well… okay, Joe Pesci). You are really tense, from beginning to end.
That scene in the school theatre. Did you know that that was improvised? She didn't know that he was going to do that. He told Scorsese that he'd got an idea, and Scorsese said "Go for it!”. What naughty boys they were, the pair of them. You can see that she's really bothered, but terrifically turned on at the same time. She said as much in later years.
I've got it on DVD, so I literally know many scenes word for word. “Councillor? Councillor? Come out, come out, wherever you aaare…”

Tenet. Turned it off halfway through on account it was a load of complete shite.

Good move. You saved yourself a couple of hours of "WTF is going on" every 3 minutes

Fair enough, but just a question, though. A genuine one, because I was thinking of renting it. Are you both hostile to Nolan's films in general?

Great movie.
I've always been a fan of John Hurt.
He was fantastic in this, along with 1984, The Elephant Man, Alien etc.

What has he not been good in, that's the question? Ever seen 10 Rillington Place? Excellent in it. As for Attenborough, it was the role of a lifetime. I'm such a weirdo that I walk around the house imitating him in that. Not when there's ladies around, though.
