The head in the box was the ending fincher and Pitt wanted. The producers wanted a less shocking one. The only thing fincher wanted, but agreed to drop, was a straight cut to black screen and credits after he shot Doe.For me, it made more sense to be the foetus.
Everything pointed to it as the final shock value.
I think the studio bottled it, big time.
There is an alternative ending I've seen, where he doesn't kill Doe.

That's interesting to know.
It's odd that the film shapes itself to be an even worse ending but is self censored (in my opinion) by the parties involved.
It's why it doesn't flow as well as it could have, for me.
I might read up on it, now it's piqued my interest!

Finally got round to watching don't look up, decentnwatch but for me 30 minutes longer than it needs to be in my opinion, the satire of the same subject get a bit repetative by then.
