Last Film You Saw

The Outfit

Something totally different to whats around, it’s pretty special. 8/10

Leonard (Mark Rylance), a master English tailor who's ended up in Chicago, operates a corner tailor shop with his assistant (Zoey Deutch) where he makes beautiful clothes for the only people around who can afford them: a family of vicious gangsters. One night, two killers (Dylan O'Brien, Johnny Flynn) knock on his door in need of a favor - And Leonard is thrust onto the board in a deadly game of deception and murder.

Sleepers.
Pitt, de Nero, bacon, Hoffman, patric, and driver. Great cast.
Slowish start but the plot soon gets interesting.
Narration enhances the film I felt.
Enjoyed the acting, Bob as the priest, bacon as the pervy prison guy, Pitt nails it as the cool but nervous Councillor. Hoffman excellent, as ever, as the alcoholic lawyer.
In all, a great film.
8/10

The Witch (2015) on Netflix.

Watched this off the back of “The Northman”, which I highly enjoyed. As it’s from the same director Robert Eggers.

An enjoyable film that really gives you a send of unease and dread whilst watching. Runtime of around 1hr 30 mins so not a slog to watch either. Would highly recommend.

Plan on watching “The Lighthouse” next as it’s also an Eggers film.

The Batman.

An atmospheric but mediocre effort.

The best scene in the film - the encounter with The Riddler in Arkham Asylum - is still highly derivative and plagiarises the ending of Kurosawa's High and Low. The Japanese title is 'Tengoku to Jigoku' (literally Heaven and Hell), and the main character in that movie physically and psychologically descends into Hell via the drug dens and seedy clubs in Yokohama.

In The Batman, we have the Iceberg Lounge where the customers consume ‘drops’, and The Riddler explicitly proclaiming, 'I told you I'd see you in Hell'.

Watch the Kurosawa film instead. It is much better.

I rate all three Eggers films very highly. He's so young but he makes wonderful films.
