True Grit remake was ok but unnecessary and not a patch on the original.
I know TM7 is a remake of Seven Samuri but it's still a classic in it's own right. How do you improve on Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen?

I, once again, find myself in complete agreement with @stony

The original Magnificent Seven was an absolute belter of a film. Still watchable to this day. Very watchable. A classic. Why re-do it? Laziness. A load of brilliant older films have been re-done recently and not made a dent in the originals. Ghostbusters? Fuck off. True Grit? Whilst I agree that the acting was better you can't replace John Wayne. The Thing. I know the 80's one was a re-make of an earlier version but there was no need for the one in 2011. No need.

They are now re-doing The Birds, IT, Commando, Mary Poppins and An American Werewolf in London amongst others. Pointless.

Couldnt agree more guys,in fact i'm struggling to think of any re-make that betters the original.

True Grit was shite and who the fuck is going to out do Arnie in Commando? its all bollocks.

Another one who doesnt seen the point in remaking the magnificent seven. Brynner, McQueen, Coburn, Bronson, Vaughan and of course Eli Wallach as Calvera is a brilliant cast. The first scene with Brynner and McQueen riding the body up to the cemetery is funny, watching McQueen pull a load of moves to try and get the attention of the viewer. If you want to remake the film in essence it could have been done in a different setting to a western, like the magnificent seven was a different setting to the seven samurai.

The other films you list are nowhere near the magnificent seven in the classic stake for me, but I agree there is no need to do them either. Lazy Hollywood has run out of ideas.
