Last Film You Saw

Never watched the film though. Is it worth watching?
Amadeus (1984) is an absolutely brilliant film. Well acted all round, F. Murray Abraham steals the film in the role of Salieri, as one of the best movie villains on screen. Its well paced, even as a costume drama, it still looks and feels fresh today, like Kubrick's Barry Lyndon (1975).

Its rare that the theatrical cut is actually better than the directors cut (which added an extra 22 mins run time), just be aware that the film had a license in taking liberties with biographical accuracy.

I watch it at least once a year, Rock me Amadeus!

Plot: Claiming to have murdered the composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the elderly Antonio Salieri recounts to a priest his dealings with the brilliant composer.

Sauce: The theatrical cut is available to watch on Amazon Prime (UK)

Sky will be releasing a new 5 part reimagination (based on the same source material that inspired the 1984 film) exploring the meteoric rise and mythical downfall of one history's most iconic composers, starring Paul Bettany as the envious court composer Antonio Salieri later on in the year.

So Gunn is in a difficult position cos pretty much all the angles have been covered with such a limited character. He needs to keep the old fans and bring in new ones in the young. Has to keep it PG as much as he can and can't travel the Snyder route as it's been done.

How would you have tackled it?

The obvious answer if all the angles have been covered is don't make another Superman film at this time, there didn't appear to be any mad public desire for it.

It seems this is a typical studio exec conversation

Anything new and interesting coming in

Anything at all

Come on guys

Okay fuck it which comic book story can we repeat again

Superman really ?

Oh with a dog this time? okay people like dogs

Just “got through” Nobody 2. It had its moments but apart from Hutch and his wife there were too just many superfluous and underdeveloped characters.
5/10 is being generous.

Being Irish I loved Barry Lyndon :-)

Trying to catch upto Marvel but unfortunately the superhero bubble has burst, far too much churned out to cash in, like Star Wars, Disney got greedy and it’s massively backfired they’ve ruined two amazing IPs. Gunn is trying to recreate that but unfortunately kiddyfying things won’t work, it’s largely older males who are the dominant audience and if you don’t cater for them then most things will fail. Whether Disney/DC like it or not they fucked up going for girl boss heroes and the so called woke agenda, like Cartman so aptly said, put a girl in it and make her gay!

I worry what Amazon will do with Bond next.

I'm an older male and I really liked the Superman movie. It was bright and colorful similar to the Suicide Squad movie he made which is definitely an adult film :) sure there were no f bombs or heads exploding but I'm happy to watch a good film if it's a good film. No f bombs or heads exploding in the OG Star Wars and plenty of old guys still into that.

I think "woke" people are misunderstanding the girl boss race swap criticism as being old men don't like women or ethnicities in movies. As an old white guy I'm happy to watch movies with female leads etc as long as it's a good movie :)

After the previous evening’s near comatose experience watching Nobody 2, we settled down to Unthinkable (2010) - a jolly film about state sanctioned torture in the face of extreme threats. The superb Samuel L Jackson is H (the master torturer) and Michael Sheen plays his extremist “victim”. The film raises questions about the limits of behaviour when faced with unthinkable consequences. I sounds a bit grim but it really isn’t. Neither is it too graphic.
A gripping watch with a twist or two. 8/10

Watched The Roses.
It's a remake of the War Of The Roses film from the 80s.
I actually thought it was quite good and funny in places.

Big Jake

Western starring John Wayne.
Seen it 3 or 4 times over the years, still a very good watch, love his relationship with the dog.
