Last manager who City fans really wanted sacked

Because of our history of manager turnover there have always been large numbers of City fans who advocated giving managers time, whoever they were.

Id say the last manager who the majority wanted sacked was Alan Ball. Maybe Frank Clark but Ball is probably the only one who the crowd chanted about.

I'm in that bracket. I can't remember the game, but remember when the rumours went around the ground about Hughes being sacked despite us being on the pitch at the time and I was a bit gutted about it. I didn't like the way that was handled and he had delivered us some excellent moments along with a hell of a lot of draws!

Mancini I didn't want sacked either. Again, that FA Cup final against Wigan was bizarre. Remember being in the Green Man and everyone talking about how he'd been sacked. A very odd atmosphere that day, not helped by the late kick off either. Horrible horrible day in the end!

Pellegrini I always admired, his first season was superb and we played unbelievable football. I'm sure he was always aware he was holding the job until Pep could arrive and I'm sure a lot of what the club did in his final season was with that in mind.

I don't even think I wanted Pearce out which is staggering!

I was one of those who was quite vocal against Pellegrini. It seemed so obvious to me that every season that passed we were going further and further backwards. He inherited a great team of champions from Mancini, used it to great effect in season 1 and then proceeded to degrade it into a team barely capable of finishing top 4.

The final season of his really did for me when it felt like he basically threw the league in a last ditch effort to win the Champions League. Except realistically we were nowhere near good enough to win it and that led to us finishing 4th in one of the lowest quality Premier Leagues I’d seen in years.

I even felt Hughes’ sacking might be a bit premature because he didn’t have loads of time but I was absolutely thrilled when Pellegrini went.

He wasn’t really “classy” though was he.

Very little tactical acumen and spent most of the game having a nap.

All the “this charming man” and “the engineer” stuff was a load of absolute bollocks.

I loved Pellegrini! The first season was absolutely class with him. And the third season was very much a "hold the fort" for Pep job and he did okay despite us having a lot of dross to clear out. He did better that season than Pep when he arrived the next year to be fair to him!

Hughes.

Signed players he couldn't manage. Really felt like he lost the team and wasn't the guy we needed to push forward into consistent European competition.

His Plan A was brilliant.

His Plan B did not exist.

Hughes. Wanted that useless rag twat out before he set foot through the door, I was gutted when Sven left.

Was confused at the time with all the fuss in the media about Hughes being “disrespected” by having Mancini waiting in the wings. Fuck him.

Did I mention he was a useless rag twat?

And tbh, Pellegrini. Didn’t want him “sacked” but it was time to go a year before he actually did. The stadium was half empty for his farewell ceremony thing for a reason.
I felt so sorry for him that day. It was embarrassing watching most of the stadium drain out as quickly as we did, but this is the way our fans chose to let their feelings be known after nearly being relegated from the Champions League.

It was rumoured & later confirmed that MP was only ever a stop-gap until Pep arrived. The difference between him & Guardiola is night & day.

I didn’t stay for it.

Feel a bit sad about it but his last year was a load of turgid shit so I thought fuck it and went to the pub.
