Last Night Actually Changes Nothing

They would swap points tallies if you ignore everything else, but that’s not the point is it? They wouldn’t swap momentum. It’s all about momentum now and we just don’t have it. Last night even saw City players having a go at each other which we just don’t see normally, even in tough moments. We are feeling the pressure and that will feed into Liverpool’s confidence that they’ll catch us.
Players have a go at each other all the time in every single game, sky just happened to focus in on it to suit their narrative last night.

A lot of nonsense is talked in the media about this mystical thing “momentum”, points are worth immeasurably more than momentum and we’ve got them. The dippers had the “momentum” when they beat us 3-2 in the 2014 run in - how did that work out for them ??

Ok. Ignore the word word momentum. Insert the word form. Ours is patchy. Theirs is relentless.

“Form” is a very arbitrary way of defining how a team is currently doing. How many games do we go back to decide if a team is in form or not ? Over the course of a season different teams will find form at different times, the only thing that truly counts at any given time is the points total.

And once again I refer back to the 13/14 run in. Some people may have thought that when they beat us to stretch their winning run to 8 games, such a “relentless” run of form would propel the dippers all the way to the title but it didn’t did it.

The key words that can maybe be substituted for “form” and “momentum” are “self belief”. That’s the key to success. The great teams and the great champions don’t need to be on a run of form to have self belief and the innate confidence that comes from having found a way to win when it most counts.

I haven't heard a peep about the title being in Liverpool's hands or one of their players sending a warning out to City since Tuesday. Does anyone think they're getting worried?

Problem is the dippers have won both the CL and the league since then and one assumes have an abundance of self belief. My own view is that after the international break we have a mini league and we have a slight advantage. Let's see what happens, shall we.
