"Why are they called 'Wine Gums'?"

I felt that there could be quite a profound answer to this so I Googled it. Apparently first made in 1909 by the son of the founder of Maynard's sweet company - so called because they were such fine sweets they should be savoured like fine wines. Next time I am in a restaurant of note I shall demand to see the wine gum waiter.
