Leadership

Okay mate. You're welcome to your opinion, however wide of the mark it may be. His issue is fitness, not quality.
Wide of what mark? He's 31. 32 by the end of the season. He's fine, but if he's in your best 11 in 2025 you aint winning the league.

He's absolutely bang average....and now he's fine!
We're talking about a leader on the pitch aren't we, something we're sadly lacking right now. Fitness aside, he's the most experienced (and possibly the most successful) player at the club. Who do you suggest?

I thought O'Reilly really stepped up that last 15 minutes or so, he was everywhere. Young and seems a quiet lad but he's made of the right stuff. I think Dias is also very vocal in the pitch Haaland and Gigi aswell.

He's ok! That's another way of saying the same thing! You have to be on the pitch to have leadership on the pitch and my point is that he probably shouldn't be on the pitch if it's your best 11. As far as leaders, I don't know if thats the issue or we're just shit at defending! Rodri, Haaland, Donna would be my choice.

I yearn for the days of Kompany, Yaya, Zabaletta eyc whose leadership would've prevented these collapses in the second half. We can go on and on about the abilities of individual players but can anyone identify a player who is a leader in our team ?
Even in years with those players in the team, and better teams/squads than we’ve got now, we limply lost many games and were nowhere near title challenges in a number of seasons.

Well he isn't , not sure on how you can have an opposite view running around a lot and cry arseing to the ref, while doing fuck all organising of those around you isn't leadership. Where is his bollocking of Nunes who again fucked up for a goal , geeing up of Stones who clearly didn't start will but needed motivation to get through the game , getting a grip of Savinho who for the 3rd time just ran into Fulham players instead of keeping possession? all things you would expect from a captain and none of which he did.

You think good captaincy involves bollocking a player who makes a mistake?

You think that would help him play better?

Maybe in the 1980s. But players need confidence to play under Pep and to want the ball continually and use it well. The guy probably already felt like shit, the last thing he'd need is someone telling him he shouldnt have fucked up, he knows that.

I've just got a mental image of Andy Morrison pinning someone to the dressing room wall after a bad first half....

You're absolutely right about good captaincy. That's why I never saw KDB as a good skipper; he had a very short fuse and is over-emotional.

Of the current squad, I only see Rodri and Bernardo as ideal 'modern day' leaders. Both appear to have the level of intelligence to lift and inspire those around them without going over the top.
