League Cup Final Post - Match Thread

Penalties are a lottery win. All about choosing your luck and beating the keeper. The ref didn't do much right, I agree. We definitely had the upper hand on the game but testing the Chelsea Manager in goal wasn't frequent enough and VAR caught Sergio's bottom offside.

They aren't though. The same thing was said about England losing them all the time and Germany winning them. They aren't a lottery, they are the application of technique under pressure. City practise them, and practise them frequently, and as a result they're very good at them. This isn't luck, and it isn't a lottery. It is preparation.

Was it Jack Nicklaus who said ‘the more I practice the luckier I get’?

Ian Rush currently holds the record for most League Cup wins with 5.

Sergio, Silva, Kompany & Fernandinho all currently have 4.

So I hope we go after this trophy again next year.

I was a bit startled to see Fernandinho also had four, I had to double check it. He's been with City much longer than I had him down for in my head.

Thing is you get to celebrate several times (misses for them and goals for us), and if you win, the last is the best.

Prefer a goal down, get a lateish equaliser followed by the last gasp stunning winner to cue bedlam in the stands.

Raheem’s last minute winner against Southampton last season is the ultimate type of winner for me (excluding Sergio’s goal of goals)...but smashing it in off the underside of the bar ain’t bad either!

6 years. 4 league cups in those 6 years. Signed just in time for the first one.

Oh yeah, I get it - it just startled me initially and did a double take.
I'm the opposite, was surprised the other day to see he'd never won the FA Cup. Hopefully we can put that right before he leaves/retires.

Isn’t the Lino supposed to keep his flag down in these situations and let VAR look t it. Very tight call that one.
Yeah that’s what they’re supposed to do, but I think the lino was just going off natural instinct having raising that flag his whole career. There’s still a chance hazard could have missed so even if it was onside (which it wasn’t) the lino only stopped a probable goal, not a guaranteed one.

Jorginho's comedy routine was only matched by Kepa's 'Top of the bill' finale.
Kepa was hoist by his own petard. Publicly saying he was giving his team some breathing space - like it's perfectly normal......
We in the crowd knew he was faking it - his manager didn't.
What a piece of shit of a goalie and very thick to come out and admit time wasting. Fucking embarrassing!

I agree. It's always been a 'fans final' with larger ticket allocation & sensible pricing. Hence the atmosphere inside Wembley beats the FAC Final hands down IMHO. I've been been to every LC Final that City have played in and each one has been a great day out. Even Wolves in 1974, despite the result. Those clubs who can't be arsed about the competition don't know what they are missing.
Agreed. I have been to all seven League Cup Finals that City have appeared in. The ones I enjoyed the most were West Brom in 1970 and Sunderland in 2014. Both times City came from behind to win.

Over the same time period I have only been to one FA Cup Final (1968 v Leicester). I couldn't get near a ticket for the Spurs or Wigan finals. Back in 1968, most of the tickets went to local FA officials rather than fans of the finalists and the atmosphere suffered.

Saw that. Piss take! Did they have a tip jar as well?

I don't mind paying the £6 or so a pint but it was the £8.xx I paid for a bottle of Tsing Tao at lunch that really pissed me off - it's just Carlsberg with a different label stuck on it.

It was a compulsory charge as well. If you had a bag, you had to check it in and had to pay £10. No choice. Was allowed to take it in last year. Obviously they've hit another way to fleece the match going public.

Overall a draw after 120 mins football was about right. Still a bit concerned about the form of KDB and Silva. The cynical fouls on aguero, sane and Silva were really poor I thought and moss could have given at least one red.

Performance wise sterling never stopped trying, same for Bernardo, but zinchenko and Otamendi had excellent matches.

Rudiger should have gone for 2 yellows. In fact he should have had 2 yellows within about 5 seconds of each other.

Are we looking at the position of foot or any parts of the body ?
well I'm old school, so going by the feet, but the rule now is it's any part of the body that can legally be used to score with. So if you're roadrunner, then you'll be miles off before your feet come into the equation!
