League Cup Final Post - Match Thread

Just got back from the pub...

That goes back to the Liverpool final for me — incredibly cagey, not at our best throughout, but the team found a way. Eddie was great at the end and absolutely loved seeing Sideshow Bob’s attempt ping back off the post. Will say Hazard’s chip took some stones and Sergio got very lucky (though, it was to be expected as toward the end of extra time he could barely run, much less kick a ball). The Sarri-Kapa incident will likely be remembered by Chelsea supporters for a very long time as the real turning point for them (for the worse, of course).

The scenes when Raz put away the winning penalty (off the bar, no less)... missus had her annual beer bath from someone behind her, who spent the trophy presentation apologising.

Absolutely chuffed for the lads right now. One of many this year, hopefully...

...I am going to try ignore the injuries for the day so I can enjoy another trophy for as long as possible.

City, City, the best team in the land and all the world!

I have to disagree with you. On Talksport they are saying the rules of football dictate the Referee (lines people 4th official VAR person etc.) do not get involved in substitution issues.

Zola should have sprinted onto the pitch and faced up to the keeper (& Luiz and anyone else who was backing up Kepa) yes he would have got a fine and probably be sent to the stands but he should have done it. You could see Zola was infuriated with the whole thing, he should have shown more gumption.

It’s more than slightly! They don’t deserve their places at the moment. Gundogan and Bernardo are better, but unfortunately Fernandinho getting injured means we’ll have to keep flogging one of them.
 
So relieved we got the win, but boy was it ugly. Too many off par performances namely Kev, Merlin, Sergio which blunted our creativity. It really is time to give Merlin a rest and put Foden in, Merlin hasn't been on it for weeks now, maybe his playing days are numbered. Kev is another concern, those injuries have affected him big time, looks a shadow of his former self, but I'm convinced his top form will return.
Zinchenko motm, what a performance especially second half and extra time, took Pedro out of the game and gave Hudson-Odoi little joy. Need a lot of rest for Wednesday now, well done boys.
 
Sarri can claim a misunderstanding, but the pictures after Moss had gone over to speak to him clearly tell a different story. If there had been a misunderstanding, it would have been clarified by that discussion, and it would not have provoked the subsequent tantrum and walk to the tunnel. He’s toast, bruschetta if you will.

Didn’t play well but we stuck at it and bit unfortunate not to sneak it in ET.

Great composure from Sterling at end.

Thought then fans really got behind the team in the 2nd period of ET. Couldn’t help but lift the players that.

Another trophy. Just hope the injuries are not too bad. Fern will be a big loss.
