The Hard Rock, as we now know it, wasn’t opened in Manchester until circa 2000.
Are you sure the Hard Rock mentioned there wasn’t in fact the Stoneground off Hyde Road?
I remember a few ‘warm up’ gigs being played there, including Zep

28th January 1973. Kings Theatre Edinburgh. The first (and last) time the Kings hosted a rock concert. I was 15.
My memories of it are that they were very very very loud. When Bonham kicked the gig off with the opening drum solo from ‘Rock and Roll’ it was like being physically assaulted. The venue was not used to rock concerts and nobody was allowed to stand or god forbid dance in the aisles which made for some very vigorous seated head shaking. Their set spanned every album up to Houses of the Holy. Not sure if that had just been released. Page wore a black sparkly suit with stars and moons on it. Plant was full on rock god. My father had a friend who was on the committee of the theatre or something like that. As a result I got 2 tickets for nix. For a short while I was very popular at school for some reason. My ears rang for a good few weeks after the concert and I still wonder to this day if I didn’t do permanent damage as I’m mutton Geoff in my right ear.

They were very very good though :-)
