Teams in

Nottingham Forest

Teams out

Wigan

Why? What have any of those sides done to merit being moved up/down?

Agreed. Ridiculous to have Norwich out. 27 k sellout evey game and has a great away following. As for Wigan, They have one of the best managers and chairman in the premier league. Hope they survive again.

It just struck me as an extremely short sighted post, to be honest. He (she?) was implying that teams should be in the PL because they are a ''big'' club, or have a strong following. Nothing to do with what the teams are or, more pertinently, aren't doing on the pitch these past few seasons. There's no logic to that way of thinking. Teams are rewarded for their efforts on the pitch, nothing else. Using the ''biggest is best' argument, you could argue that Huddersfield (the team back in the 1930's) and Wolves (a true glamour side in the 1950's) should be in the PL. You see how flawed that argument is shown to be.

What a load of bollox ,just because a team has larger support they should be in the Premier League, its the sort of comment you would expect to hear from a rag not a city fan.
A team is in the Premier league on football merit not away support and as for wanting Leeds here, possibly the op wasnt around in the late 70's/80's to experience their away support ?

I'm with the OP. Would much sooner have the bigger clubs up here. Fulham wouldn't be here save for Al-Fayed and Wigan wouldn't be here save for Dave Whelan. I don't see that they've earned their way here. That said, Leeds, Forest et al. all have to make it on their own merit still, but I can't view Fulham and Wigan as Premier League teams on merit. Without rich owners, they wouldn't be Premier League clubs.

You're on thin ice there. I have no doubt that there a re a good number of clubs who would say that about our title win last season. We're in no position to cast stones at them about their rich owners.

Not really, as I'd understand a fan of most other clubs saying we didn't earn the title. I understand the bitterness of the fans we've dislodged on the way to our success. I understand why Villa and why Everton might have cause to dislike us. There is a legitimate grievance.

There is still a difference though, in that the cartel that exists at the top of our league is solely based, solely based, on who was at the top when the Champions League was extended out to four places, and then the money started rolling in, thus creating a self-perpetuating oligarchy. It was historical lucky dip. You were idiots if you fucked up the gravy train like Leeds and Newcastle did. Chelsea aren't a historically big club and they became a top four club just because they were in the top four when being in the top four became very important due to Champions League money. The money of the Premier League isn't anywhere near as big a factor. 45 teams have played in the Premier League, which proves you can make it here without money, because most of clubs did. Name clubs who broke into the top four without money. I doubt you can even say Spurs, because they haven't really broken into it. Also, would they have finished 4th if we hadn't come and broken it open and weakened other clubs?
