Leeds United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

A win is a win but fortunate that Leeds decided a draw was job done because we were that bad second half I think they could have won that with a bit more ambition.

Nunes, O’Reilly and Gvardiol were dreadful second half. Donna had his worst game too.

We certainly don’t like teams pressing us hard,
We are very weak out of possession esp in midfield. Are we supposed to be pressing?
Anderson and Livramento are apparently targets.

I’ll oblige. Nunes has been class all season. Yes he fucked up today but I think he’s been one of the few players this season who has been quality in virtually every game.
He provided a good assist today and he’s improving to the point where I’m happy he’s our first choice right back.
He sure did

That second half was definitely shit.

A good job a game is made up of two of them.

Even in this supposedly dominant Leeds second half where we were shit, they had zero shots on target outside of the three we gifted them. Seems an odd definition of shit to me when your opponent can't fashion a single shot on goal.

So glad they all got a rest beforehand to serve that up. Absolutely fucking rubbish - against a team we should be walking past by 4 or 5 we ended up scrapping around to win it and hanging on by our bollocks. A 20 minute spell in that 2nd half where we couldn't get out of our own half - at home.....against Leeds...was particularly sobering.

Foden carried the other 10 there and deserves the plaudits. As for the rest - trash. Reijnders shuffles about like he's got the trots and he's down to his last pair of underpants. Nunes had his standard brain fart and quite whata up with Gvardiol atm god knows. They should be embarrassed by that performance.

Actually, although I agree about the crosses - I think Donnarumma's the best change we've made. A brilliant signing.

But with that defence, we could have him and Ederson in there together and eventually we'd still be found out.
I agree 100% but normally we will have a couple of corners to deal with BUT as he is so weak at them teams are going for corners when they can, and team like Newcastle kept putting them virtually under his bar and he clearly struggles... get our defence to learn and TRY and protect him by letting them cross in CERTAIN situations...i.e. when they just have to fling one in without much thought as we will not try and block it and concede a corner

It could be argued that the complacency demonstrated in the post is the root of the problem
Football isn’t consistent, clubs aren’t consistent and nothing lasts forever.

I’ve said to Rags for years, and they’ve never taken it on board, that nothing lasts forever. They’ve never understood it, despite over 150 years of evidence in the game. They still don’t understand it now despite it being over a decade for them to have got wise to it.

By pure chance they had the money and little competition to stride away from the rest in the 90s and what that built lasted until last decade. But even in the 00s, they went from 2003 to 2007 without winning the league before building their best ever team. Then slid into obscurity over the next decade. Peaks and troughs, nothing lasts forever.

It’s likely we’ll never build a team as good as 2017-2023 ever again, maybe nobody in English football will, since it took nearly a century and a half for it to happen… or, we might do the same thing as the Rags and go from 2024 to 2028 without winning the league but then build another great side. But even then, that won’t last forever.

We’re just in a bit of a trough at the moment because we’re in the reality stage of ‘nothing lasts forever’. By pure chance we needed players in positions where top players had got too old and were leaving but top players weren’t available or didn’t want to sign for us at this very moment in time to replace them. That’s football.

All too easy first half and we were deservedly 2nil up . However we should have been 4 up ! Complacency set in again in the 2nd half with some terrible defending again just like at Newcastle last week . Great character shown to win the game with a late one from Phil .
Still loads of room for improvement and we somehow look “leggy” imho .
Take the win all day long CTID
It was quite alarming to see the players running over to Pep to get instructions less than 15 minutes into the second half with Donna pretending to be injured.

whatever he said didn’t seem to make any difference, the ball over the top was leaving us in panic mode time and time again, particularly on the left.
