Leeds United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Relieved to beat a piss poor Leeds team at home.

Sums up our season.

Looking forward to the Nunes fan club and the classic 'he did well apart from that 1 moment' shite.

Half that matchday squad need replacing.
I’ll oblige. Nunes has been class all season. Yes he fucked up today but I think he’s been one of the few players this season who has been quality in virtually every game.
He provided a good assist today and he’s improving to the point where I’m happy he’s our first choice right back.

Perhaps today’s performance is indicative of a team being rebuilt. Liverpool are showing its not easy and it’s took Arsenal years to rebuild.

Today was not good but a sense of perspective is required.

We did win.
Or it's indicative of an attempted rebuild filled with players who are not good enough to play for us.

All it takes is unleashing a Calvert Lewin at our defence these days. There a couple of moments where three of ours were pressing Ampadu in the middle of the park and he got through the press, ducking Ampadu ! So poor in our duels, except Nico.

Can someone find that stat page from the second half someone posted in the match thread? It utterly blew my mind.

Don't know what to make of that, we were really good first half and got the 3 points but fuck me on 85 minutes I was ready to rip the entire fucking club up. Feel a bit shell-shocked by that. It was really really bad.

Donnarumma flapped at a cross and it's like everyone else decided to have a simultaneous panic attack for the rest of the game.

Good finishes from Phil, Cherki provided a spark off the bench and Doku and Gonzo worked their bollocks off and were the only 2 who showed the right mentality and spirit. The rest of em second half were fucking dross.

Dear Santa

For Christmas, can Iwe have a PROPER right back, and a PROPER left back, not just people who can "do the job".

Thanks, lefty

Don't get me wrong, the players in those positions today are competent, but they're not full backs.
They scare the shit out of me

Left back we’re covered, RAN has only been here a few months so far, far too early to judge and Nico is more than capable. Right back I couldn’t agree more.

If everyone was trying as hard as Nunes, we'd be top of the table.

Like last season this side cannot play with any intensity. Scored early and then it’s all about controlling the match, taking the sting out of the game, but we’re not good enough to do it.

4/5 years ago we would have pressed, harried the opposition from the first to the last minute. Now we let poor sides, like Leeds, back into the match and are then unable to change gear.

We played at home against Leeds, who is in 18th place, and after taking a two-goal lead, they equalized in a way that highlighted our weak defense. They almost snatched a draw were it not for Foden's goal in stoppage time.

Is this the level of a team expected to compete for the title? It's a display of complacency, a lack of mentality and character, and even poor technical ability, especially from a defense that doesn't know how to defend.

Nunez and Gvardiol defensive performance was pathetic. The first goal and the subsequent penalty were unacceptable. If this is their level against Leeds, what will they offer against stronger teams?

I also think there's a weakness in the manager's approach to defensive tactics. We need strong, combative players in defense, not passive, dependent ones.

I thought Pep learned by in 2023 by going with 4 centre backs, two of which playing left back and right back. We looked solid and that's the way going forward.

Now he's gone back to the days of playing the likes Zinchenko (throwing a player in for the sake of it), whilst Arsenal play with 4 centre backs and never look like conceding.

In a foul fucking mood after that. Pep has fucked with the rhythm and structure of this team too much in the last 7-10 days. Loads of players out of form, our top players lack sharpness. Leeds are relegation fodder and they took the piss for 45 minutes. Papered over a big load of cracks there. Pep is losing the players imo.
How you can watch that collapse and think it has anything to do with structure/tactics/Pep is incredible.

The defence gifted them a goal and then the whole team lost their bottle.

First half was one of our most dominant performances all season, they weren't lacking sharpness or rhythm then.
