It's easy to spot some of the key mistakes that have been made in the leadup to yesterday's game.
Firstly, the arrogant decision not to buy a proper backup for Fernandinho has left us in the lurch when he, aged 33, inevitably got injured. We missed him immeasurably yesterday.
Second, the choice not to trust Foden in Premier League games. Yesterday with Silva and De Bruyne out we needed someone who can offer more forward drive in their place and Foden, the most obvious stylistic alternative, was benched again.
Third, Pep's insistence on chopping and changing the defence whenever he can. Stones-Laporte was an amazing partnership earlier this season, we kept six consecutive league clean sheets with them mostly starting together at the back and they've barely kept one since, which has seen our defensive record utterly collapse. Why?
It's not too late to rectify these mistakes and win the title but if Fernandinho gets injured on February 2nd and we haven't signed anyone we're utterly fucked.
