Leicester City (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

One of the best away days this season. Fans were class. 2-0 win, McAtee brilliant proving Pep wrong. This title race is not over, all it takes is Salah to get injured.
Steady on pal.
I'm all for been optimistic but we would finish above dipperpool if we were level on points now never mind 11 behind

?

He’s made 46 first team appearances for us, and he’s 20 years old according to a quick wiki glance.

He’s had opportunities and then some. And at 20 he’s not “very young” in footballing terms to me. I’ve listed my concerns with him in another post on here. He may become a better player in time, one worthy of a starting place in a top 4 side, but I don’t see it. I’d like to see him moved on - with a buy-back clause if needed, in case you’re right, but as I say, I just can’t see it at the moment.

The drop off in quality which he represents is major weakness in our team imho.
I think you can look at Foden to see reasons for Rico's drop in form. Foden is struggling because the team are struggling. He had the luxury of being bedded into a very, very, very good side. Lewis is having to play a starting role in a team that's struggling and being run over in midfield. Foden is struggling more than Lewis I'd suggest. No one looks good in our team right now.

I'm sorry, but that is bollocks.
My great Uncle started going to watch City in the 1930s, and became a ST holder in the 1970s. Even bought some shares when we were really shite in the 80s.

He was a bachelor so always came to ours on a Sunday for dinner. For sodding years in the 70s I had to listen to him and my Grandad moan moan moan about our result the day before.

Were they "lesser" fans because they moaned? Of course not! In actual fact they were the foundation on why we got picked for a takeover in 2008.
Moaning is in the fine traditions of City fans although its often hyperbolic. I watched the game boxing day with my uncle who is well into his 80's who spent the entire game saying this is the worst he'd ever seen City play. I had to remind him he'd still had a season ticket the year Pearce was in charge and he hadn't actually renewed the following year. He still had a good old moan about how crap Haaland is and we had a good time making gentle fun of him

This result is good for confidence, but the performance from some was dreadful, Phil most of all for me, yes he had the shot that led to us taking the lead, but I was pleased when he was taken, didn't really attack, and couldn't be arsed helping defensively.

Sainho's best game after the poor effort against Everton, Bernardo worked hard (but miles off his best), Ake as always (hope it's the same fatigue as Thursday), Lewis good in bits, poor in others, Haaland worked harder than normal, but it's currently quite a low bar, hopefully the goal will boost his confidence. Kovacic did well enough in the one man midfield, but he's not Rodri (nor close).

Akanji is out of form, but I trust him, Gvardiol goes from the sublime to the ridiculous. KdB still tries his best, but it's gone for me, some of his passes were terrible, even the short ones.

The overall thing today that stood out to me was our giving the ball away, and our lack of composure in possession is a real worry.

The big positive was McAtee, not lumbered by the recent form.

The thing is with Lewis. He is undoubtedly fantastic with the ball at his feet, however in my honest opinion, he lacks the physical presence and positional awareness to be a high level defender or even a holding midfielder. Much better suited as a 10 but obviously pep knows more than I do so I blindly trust him and hope he will improve defensively

“City are back” love it. But bugger me not seen us give the ball away or not hassle and tackle this poorly ever under Pep. Anyway off we go from here. Few in during January window. And second bugger me mcatee actually got to come and did well.

A relief to win today (just the one silly giveaway from Gvardiol this time,) with some good performances but our lack of running power and energy was apparent again in the 2nd half particularly. Something that must start to be addressed in January. Nevertheless Kovacic had a good game and Bernardo supported him well but we need more that have the same energy. Savinho man of the match for me, and well pleased for McAtee. Hopefully he will get more chances now.
Good summary. Alsothought it paid off having Savinho on that left side so it fell to his natural foot and bingo shoots first time , we were spared one of the others working it back on to their right and looking for a pass.

Absolutely ;-)
And, in my opinion anyway, posters who decide who should be fans and who shouldn't can sod off.

It just shows what a difference a little luck can make….not conceding to the oppositions first attack or shot on goal as we have done on so many occasions this season.

A long way from being a perfect performance and we did look vulnerable up until we got the second however let’s take the positives.

Savio looked a player today and Kovacic and Bernardo gave us a little more energy in the middle plus Haaland had his best game for a month but for me McAtee changed the game for City when he came on, slowing the tempo when required and great movement to help set up the second goal.

I just hope now that Pep starts to trust McAtee more and doesn’t just stick him out wide…..he can do the job that an out of form Gundogan isn’t doing at the moment or even instead of De Bruyne or Foden.

We were never going to transition back to our previous high levels in just one game but this will certainly do the confidence no harm.

It seems as though we are going to be busy In January in the transfer market to give the squad that much required energy and maybe creativity….so I think we are allowed some optimism that we’ve hit rock bottom and the only way is up.
Onwards and upwards - what do pro's say - one game at a time and see where the cards fall in May. Great to see McAtee playing well...needed that as he has blown a few opportunities he's had this season..well done son

I’d agree with a lot of that tbf.

(I also mentioned it in the match thread but I’ve got a trace memory of reading earlier in the season Foden had a bad bout of covid. If he’s struggled to ever fully recover from that, it could be factor in his performances since)

Very happy with a win, another nervy affair though.

Lots of positives - Savinho, McAtee, 90 mins from KDB even if not at his best, thought Haaland was great when he got more involved in the build up (proved he’s got it in his locker) and overall the defence was a bit more robust despite a couple of brain farts.

All in all we got what we deserved, couple of good goals and got a bit of luck with some of their chances.

Downside is that we still look porous against a counter attack. We need more physicality in the team to have an effective press.

Baby steps though and all that counts is the 3 points tonight.

Yeah, top 4 sides are awash with 20 year olds.
